[VIDEO] 2024 Corvette E-Ray First Drive Shows a 2.1 Second 0-60 MPH Launch!

The more we hear about the new 2024 Corvette E-Ray, the more there is to love. From the car’s initial reveal where it did the Cyclone Spin on the Today Show, the first drive videos featuring the Corvette engineers drifting around a high-speed circle, to the first customer car dyno test showing 630 lb-ft of torque, we keep getting impressed by what the Corvette team calls the Swiss Army Knife of the C8 line-up.

Now we can add another exclamation point to Chevy’s first performance AWD hybrid. Watch in the video below as the E-Ray performs a blistering 0-60 MPH launch in just 2.1 seconds! It happened on Saturday at the National Corvette Museum’s Motorsports Park with our good friend Byron Glover Jr from the Drive 615 YouTube channel.

Byron was invited to come up for a first drive in the Motorsports Park’s new 2024 Corvette E-Ray. Byron also owns a C7 Z06 so this should be a fun video as we hear about his driving impressions of the new sports car. But the focus here is really on exploring all the things the new E-Ray can do, from its silent Stealth mode propulsion to how the car performs on the track.

During his POV drive on the track, Byron refers to the AWD system as delivering a 1-2 punch as you already have the power of the 495-hp LT2 V8 engine pushing the car and the AWD helps to pull out of the corners. Byron selectively triggers the Charge+ button for topping off the battery, and he reports during the middle of his track time that the battery quickly regenerated back to 100%. One of the things I noticed about the PDR video is that it also displays the real-time status of the battery charging and discharging, so for those who do track the car can use that data for knowing where on the track you are getting a good recharge in the various corners, to perhaps seeing when the optimal time is to hit the Charge+ button.

“Initial thoughts? The E-Ray is absolutely killer. It’s the perfect blend of a track weapon as you just experienced. I’m sure there’s people that can push this a lot harder, but it’s just an absolute blast. The coolest part about this vehicle is when you kick in both Motors and you get that full 655 horsepower. It’s just incredible!”

While we saw a snippet of Byron doing the 2.1 second 0-60 MPH launch control at the beginning of the video, he shares it once again from several camera angles. This is a treat for Byron as the Motorsports Park only allows you to experience the launch control from the passenger seat should you book as session with the Lead/Follow touring laps. There’s a bit of levity on Byron’s first attempt…apparently you have to have the car in Drive for it to launch. His second attempt nets him the 2.1 second launch which is the fastest we’ve seen from the performance hybrid so far!

0-60 MPH in 2.1 seconds

That was a great first drive video and we thank our friend Byron for sharing the news with us. You can experience driving the E-Ray as well at the NCM Motorsports Park with Lead/Follow touring laps and the Lightning Round where you too can experience the thrill of a professional driver launching the car and then going into a full hot lap around the track.

From Byron Glover Jr at Drive 615 on YouTube:

Yesterday, I went up to the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park (NCMSP) in Bowling Green Kentucky. I was fortunate enough to get to track the all new Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray on the track.

Thank you so much to the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park!

  1. Just an opinion … 0-60 in 2.1 is insane! The folks that can afford the C8 E-Ray do not have the capabilities to handle this kind of accelerating speed. Slow reflexes and lack of hand / eye control at this accelerating speed will contribute to crashes for sure.
Only the most advanced drivers should be allowed to drive one.
    Just sayin’.

  2. @Mike, The cool thing about Merca is freedom!! We can do what we want when we want if we have the money to do so and it’s legal. You have the right to say we need to limit this but the doesn’t mean your right. Opinions are like armpits, everyone has them and they all stink.

I don’t believe the built-in 0-60 counter is correct and we need draggy or other legit instruments to verify the times.

  3. Too bad Chevrolet cannot produce the E-Ray. Why are they delayed? What obscene pricing will dealers put on E-Rays? Of course we can get excited by the car but it feels, so far, we get nothing.

  4. I am pregnant as hell , i feel some movement, maybe.. i am waiting on that call, you know , the one when your order gets ‘accepted’ or broadcast. dI,yAMM,,,,I thought I’d have my Eray home by now, waaaaaawaaaaa ….. 2.1 , man , that will change the shape of your face as your ears move back.. lol
