Corvette Racing kicked off the 2011 American Le Mans Series with two new cars and two new drivers at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. After 12 hours of going pedal to the metal, the twin C6.Rs finished third and fourth in GT. The No 03 Corvette C6.R with Olivier Beretta, Tommy Milner and Antonio Garcia earned the podium and was the only non-BMW to finish on the lead lap. The No 4 Corvette C6.R with Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen and Richard Westbrook fought off several potential setbacks and spent much of the race climbing out of a three-lap deficit to end in fourth place.

More Corvette Personalization: Choose Your Own VIN

Fans of Corvette and readers of this blog are familiar with the extra attention Corvette owners can receive from the factory as well as some of the advanced personalization options when buying a new Corvette. If you thought the ZR1/Z06 Engine Build Experience was cool, wait until you hear about the new PIN RPO. Yes, Corvette owners can now choose your own VIN. This is great for collectors who want to match an older Corvette’s sequence number with a brand new Corvette. Just a quick note to let you know CorvetteBlogger.com hit another milestone today. This morning, we published our 2,000th blog post! That’s 2,000 pages of Corvette content relating to sales, news, lifestyles and racing! Never in my wildest dream did I think the site would be as popular as it is when we dropped our first post back in August of 2005. I’d like to thank all our readers and contributors who helped make this happen.

I’d also like to thank all of our website sponsors, the men and women of General Motors who make the Corvette, the folks at the NCM for protecting the car’s heritage, the guys at Corvette Racing for kicking ass and all the contacts we have with other Corvette related websites, Chevy dealers and the auction houses.

I’ve been around Corvettes my entire life. Time and again I am reminded that it’s the greatest car America has ever built. And its been my pleasure to share my enthusiasm of America’s original sports car with you though this website.

Now on to blog post #2002…

During last week’s Detroit Autorama, Cobo Hall was wall-to-wall hot rods and many of those hot rods were Corvettes. The classic hod rod Vettes ranged from originals and restomods to full blown customs like the 1962 Corvette named “Elegance” that won a spot in the Ridler Great 8. Not to be outdone, later model Corvettes included the SEMA Z06x track Corvette and a sinister Black Lingenfelter C6 Convertible were also on full display. Even Jake was in the house! Check out the full gallery after the jump.
