What should have been a routine private party sale turned into a nightmare for a car flipper who goes by Ghosted on TikTok. He had listed his Corvette Z06 for $60,000 — a car he’d bought for $50,000 — and thought he’d found the perfect buyer. The man not only agreed to the asking price but even offered to reimburse travel expenses if Ghosted would bring the car to Chicago. It sounded unusually generous, but the promise of a smooth sale was enough to convince him to make the seven hour drive.
He documented the entire trip and the meeting in a TikTok video posted March 3, a nearly nine-minute chronicle of a deal that unraveled in seconds.
The two met outside a bank, a setting that should have signaled legitimacy. The buyer inspected the Corvette and produced a small bag of cash — far too small to contain the full amount. He brushed it off as proof he had money on hand and suggested they continue with a test drive. Wanting to be reasonable, Ghosted agreed and rode along in the passenger seat.
After a short loop, the buyer pulled onto a side street and asked to pop the hood. He cracked his door open, and Ghosted stepped out as well. Once he was out of the ‘Vette, the buyer slammed his door, dropped the clutch, and vanished down the street with the Corvette. The entire theft took only a heartbeat.

Ghosted still had his phone and wallet, but little else. He tried to flag down a nearby officer, then watched as nearly a dozen squad cars responded — all too late. The Corvette was gone. He ended up catching a ride to the station and flying home empty handed.
Only afterward did he learn the buyer had a history of pulling similar stunts. Another seller had nearly fallen for the same setup, and a Facebook Marketplace review described someone else driving hours to meet the same man, only to be abandoned at a police station.
To make matters worse, Ghosted carried only liability insurance — which doesn’t cover theft. Between the car, the travel, and the lost profit, he estimates he’s out roughly $70,000.
The Corvette hasn’t been recovered. The lesson, however, is painfully clear: in private sales, trust is earned, not assumed, and one overlooked detail can cost a small fortune.
