[ACCIDENT] Watch the Scary Moment a C8 Corvette Stingray Convertible Catches Fire While Driving

Have you seen this crazy video of a C8 Corvette Stingray Convertible that suddenly combusted while being driven? If not, here’s your chance.

There appears to be several different versions of this video floating around, so if the original poster wants to send me the link, I’ll make sure to give you credit. The original video that was posted was pulled from YouTube so here is this one from our friends at TPS Motorsports on Facebook.

We do see the driver is wearing a GoPro or similar camera to capture the point of view drive, and just keep your eye on the rear-view mirror as you can suddenly see flames erupting from the rear of the car. Playing back the video several times, you can also see the moment the Check Engine Light illuminates, but it came on only after there was already an issue which impacted the Stingray’s LT2 V8 engine.

As soon as he notices the flames, he brings the car to a stop on the side of the access road where he was driving. Jumping out, he rushes to the passenger side to grab what I believe to be a camera bag and then retreats from the burning vehicle.

The internet definitely has some questions about this drive and the resulting fire. Like, why isn’t the driver wearing proper footwear, and what’s with that shifting he was doing, and why grab the bag but leave behind the radar detector (and your shoes)?

So many questions!

  1. “Please, consider carrying a fire extinguisher inside your Corvette.” After all, you are the first responder. Thanks, Ray

  2. I always have a compact Element 50 second duration fire extinguisher in all my vehicles and in the kitchen at home. You never know when you or someone may need it. The Element leaves no residue, non-pressurized, non-corrosive, maintenance free, never needs recharging and is easy to store, compared to traditional steel fire extinguishers. Regards Rick C7 GS

  3. As many vids as I’ve seen about Element not being able to stop fires, I’m surprised at all the support they seem to have.
