“It’s kind of tough to miss an option that no one has really seen or experienced, and besides, it costs $3,000! Does the Corvette Nation even care now that’s gone?”
Those are just some of the questions we asked ourselves today after learning that GM has finally provided an update about the Electrochromic dimming roof panel which offers the ability to control three levels of ambient light appearing in the cockpit. We only know of a handful that got out into the wild before demand caught up with the supply, which obviously wasn’t enough.
This most recent status update comes via a distribution update to the 2026 Corvette Order Guide. According to the update, the CF8 Electrochromic Roofs are now footnoted with “Not Available to Order.” This move is generally temporary, and it supersedes the monthly constraint updates issued during the monthly order cycles.
Compounding the situation even more is that the Electrochromic Roofs require a special wiring harness, and it’s only installed on to those cars at the factory that were ordered with it, and they cannot be retrofitted after the fact.
As of Monday afternoon, the Electrochromic Roofs are still showing as an Exterior Option on the 2026 Corvette Configurators.
The other changes Chevrolet made this week to the 2026 Corvette Order Guide all have to do with the custom options for the upcoming upcoming “Stars & Steel” Limited Edition package, of which 250 special edition Corvettes will be built.

Now free to spend $3000 on some other useful option.
The cars that got it are going to be more desirable for “rarity” eventually.
I hope that this is just discarding V1.0 so that GM can offer a higher quality V2.0 on both the coupe and HTC.
