Never underestimate the imagination — or the nerve — of a determined body man.
Case in point: this 1963 Corvette convertible that’s been transformed into a one-of-a-kind Sting Ray creation. Some might call it unique. Others, as one commenter put it, might prefer the term “Frankenvette.” Either way, it’s impossible to ignore.
The car’s long, strange journey began with a family who owned it from the 1970s until earlier this year. Around 2001, they unleashed a wave of modifications that turned a classic C2 into something closer to a custom showpiece.
Now the new owner has listed the car on Bring a Trailer, where the light blue machine—eerily close to C8 Rapid Blue—has already drawn a high bid of $21,000 with six days remaining.
A Body Shop Fever Dream
The list of modifications reads like a greatest hits album of early 2000s custom trends:
• Rear end chopped and fitted with rectangular aftermarket taillights
• ’67-style side vents grafted in
• Lowered windshield
• Front and rear bumpers deleted
• Black side pipes added
• Door handles shaved
• And the pièce de résistance: a one piece hood and nose that tilt forward like a C4
Bring a Trailer’s write up mentions black 15 inch wheels with machined rims and chrome hubcaps, but the rear setup in the photos looks far beefier than the stated 275/60 Dayton Daytona SRs.
The interior is tamer but still unmistakably custom. The original instrument panel and glovebox remain, but the center stack now houses a Sun Tach 8,000 rpm tachometer where the clock once lived. A switch panel to the right of the steering column controls fans and rear cargo functions, with several unused toggles hinting at abandoned ideas.
Other touches include:
• Blue shag carpet
• Cross handle shifter
• Fire extinguisher
• Alpine stereo
• Custom door panels with integrated speakers
It’s part dune buggy, part Beach Boys, part “what exactly were they going for?”
Given the car’s surf wagon vibe, a 409 under the tilt front would’ve been poetic. Instead, power comes from a 350 V8 installed in 1995, paired with a four speed automatic. Supporting hardware includes a Howe aluminum radiator, long tube headers, and a Street Demon 1900 625 cfm carburetor.
It may not be period correct, but it should make for a lively cruiser.
Purists may be crying into their oil pans, but there’s no denying this Corvette has personality. It’s the kind of car that turns heads, sparks debates, and guarantees its next owner will never blend in.
And in the world of customs, that’s half the fun.

That stubby, upturned rear end has a bit of a “Cheetah” vibe, but not my cup of tea.
Color me incredulous! That someone, anyone would offer 21K for abomination is beyond comprehension. About all I can say is to quote Robert Earl Keen: the road goes on forever, and the party never ends.
Opps, we forgot tail lights. Let’s just throw some on there. Aww, thats better. Well at least we can pass inspection.
Did somebody put a lift kit on it? This car isn’t a body shop fever dream, it’s just a stupid looking pos.
I think “Frankenvette” is the more apt description. Never underestimate man’s ability to reach new lows.
I’ll give him 21 bucks for the baby moons and trim rings,he can keep the rest.
Send it back to Mexico.
Door panels are hilarious, what’s with the trailer tail lights….
Looks like a badly done Kit Car
To the Owner of this “vehicle”: Take the 21 Grands and RUN!
