Back in May we shared the story of the very first C4 Corvette. 1984 Corvette VIN 001 was fresh out storage and received a comprehensive detail at the hands of the skilled team at WD Detailing.
The first C4 was initially delivered to its first owner after winning a raffle many years ago. The lucky winner promptly put the car up for sale and the consignor’s husband responded to the ad immediately. After mortgaging his house, he scored the white over red C4 and parked it in his garage.
The car has been seen from time to time over the years but most recently resurfaced after the owner passed away. Amazingly, it still shows just 277 miles on the odometer. Now looking shiny and new, the car is up for auction as part an estate sale hosted by Carrick Auction.
The car was built in February of 1983 and wears its original white paint over a red leather interior – just like every 1953 Corvette. Power comes from the venerable Cross Fire Injection engine that’s mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. It remains remarkably original right down to the Goodyear VR50 tires on all 4 corners. The sale includes a stack of paperwork including the window sticker, build sheet, storage records, authentication documents, old photos, and a detailed ownership history.
The first C4 Corvette is being offered from the Gonyer Collection via Carrick Auction on November 8th, 2025. In person bidding will be at 18995 Mercer Rd in Bowling Green, Ohio where festivities get underway at 10am. If you can’t wait until then to get your bid in, then click here to take advantage of the online prebidding. The opening bid has an ask of $100,000 which hasn’t been answered as of this writing. The sale is showing a reserve, so stay tuned to see if it sells.
VIN 001 cars rarely come up for auction and this one popped up sort of under the radar. There’s no doubting the significance of this Corvette. It’s the first one of the 4th generation which is when the Corvette really began its transition to a world-beating sports car. The collector car market as a whole hasn’t been too friendly to C4’s over the years (outside of ZR-1’s) so we’re interested to see where this piece of Corvette history ends up. How much do you think this important Corvette will sell for?

I hope Rick Hendrick buys it.
$700K will be the final price for this 1984 C4 VIN 001
Take a picture and get a new one for $100k
Surprised Rick Hendrick doesn’t already own this car, he’s a nut on #0001 Corvettes and with an approximate net worth over $2 Billion, he has money to burn.
$100k hm… I know, number 1, but will the C4 hex hurt it?
It belongs in a museum. NCM or whatever.
