[VIDEO] The First 1984 Corvette VIN 001 with 277 Original Miles Gets its First Wash in Years

We’ve shown tons of videos of the great job the guys at WD Detailing do at bringing back classic Corvettes that have gone unused for years.

Their latest adventure, however, might be the most exciting one they’ve ever done.

They’ve been given the honor of cleaning up one of the most historically significant Corvettes in existence – the very first C4 ever built with VIN 001.

This white over red 1984 Corvette was apparently the prize in a contest years ago, and the California winner quickly placed it up for sale in one of the nation’s largest newspapers.

The current owner’s husband spotted the ad and called at 6 a.m. the same day (likely waking up the West Coast owner) – saying he wanted the car sight unseen. Unbeknownst to his wife Peggy, he mortgaged their house to buy it!

He passed away late last year, and now Peggy is allowing WD Detailing to clean up the car very gingerly.

This will not be your ordinary cleanup, though, because the guys have to be very careful with the lettering on the windows and doors that needs to be preserved. According to the writing on the window, the car had 249 miles when Peggy’s husband bought it. It has just 277 now!

“It is going to take extreme attention to detail to make sure we clean this as properly as possible,” they admit. “This is less of a disaster detail than we usually feature and more of a preservation detail.”

The goal, they say, is to not do any damage to the car at all, especially since it is so historically important as the first of more than 358,000 C4s eventually built through 1996.

These WD videos aren’t short, but try to carve out about 45 minutes to watch all the way to the end to see the final results and Peggy’s priceless reaction. It’ll be worth the time, especially if you’re a C4 fan like me.

  1. Would be a great addition to NCM, but I don’t think it would fetch the price it deserves unless it went to an auction.
