Patience is a virtue, goes the old saying.
After being stored in a barn for 30 years after the original owner passed, this 1990 Corvette ZR-1 finally is brought back to life, thanks to the cleaning and mechanical efforts of AMMO NYC and his crew of helpers.
Best of all, with just 593 miles on the odometer, though it may have taken 35 years, this 375-horsepower behemoth of a Corvette is finally going to be used the way Chevy engineers intended all along – on the open road.
The second owner, who says he spotted this catch on Facebook Marketplace and gobbled it up within hours of the listing, usually takes C4 Corvettes apart for a living and sells the used parts to other enthusiasts. This one, though, is staying with Papa.
Once he arrives to pick up the car – with a trailer, just in case, the new owner has this to say: “Now that it’s clean and I can sit in it, I want to drive it. It’s crazy. I usually part them out. I think in 20 years, it’s the first one I’ve not parted out, but I want to put some miles on this thing. I got a little work to do mechanically to make it safe for the road after sitting so long. But I’m just going to have fun with it and enjoy it. There’s still summer left.”
Great news for enthusiasts who hate to see a car sitting neglected for decades only to have it parked again after being cleaned up, huh?
We’ve told you about lots of clean-ups on this blog, and there have been some pretty disgusting cars over the years. But this one might be the most labor-intensive we’ve seen. Despite the low mileage, it really takes a lot of extra effort and elbow grease and loads of other chemicals to get this car cleaned up after being occupied for decades by squirrels, rats, raccoons, and who knows what else – all with the roof panel off!
It’s worth taking 31 minutes to watch the video that documents all this work, and you’ll be rewarded with a couple of burnouts that might leave you wanting to go out and buy a ZR-1, too!

This is a 1990 Corvette ZR1 that was stored in a barn for 30 years after the original owner passed. The new owner Rick is a Corvette enthusiast and hopes to get the ZR1 back on the road. After a fun chat with Rick and Rob Ninkovich (New England Patriots), we focus on deep cleaning the ZR1. First a satisfying power wash to remove the years of dust followed by a paint polish. Next I disassemble the interior for a deep clean. Finally, Tom from Ace Performance CT helps with the mechanical refresh to get the ZR1 back on the road. Enjoy the satisfying detail restoration of this legendary American sportscar.

Very interesting video. The car cleaned up extremely well considering how bad off it was.
What’s the guesstimate on the cost of this restoration?
