Corvettes for Sale: Fathom Green 1969 Corvette Powered By an L71 427/435 V8

This 1969 Corvette T-top coupe up for sale on Craigslist out of Walnut Creek north of San Francisco has been meticulously documented and exceptionally preserved, undergoing multiple restorations over the decades.

Finished in Fathom Green over updated green leather, this Stingray is one of only 2,772 L71 427/435 horsepower coupes produced. The rarity and exceptional care delivered over the past 56 years prompts the seller to feel justified in his $70,000 asking price.

Indeed, this Corvette “is as close to original as you can get unless you find one that has been stored most of its life,” says the seller, who is just the sixth owner.

The tank sticker, removed when the L71 engine was rebuilt in 2010, confirms the validity of the 427/435 engine, which had also been rebuilt in 1985. The sticker also indicates original equipment included close-ratio four-speed M21 manual transmission, vinyl trim (since replaced with green leather by a previous owner), transistor ignition, 3.70 Positraction axle, AM/FM radio, F41 suspension, head restraints, power brakes, power steering, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, and PO2 wheel covers (not currently on the car but in the possession of the seller).

Built at the St. Louis plant in October 1968, it was delivered to Brooks Biddle Chevrolet in Spokane, Washington and subsequently sold to the original owner on Feb. 13, 1969. Since then, it’s spent most of its life in Idaho, Nevada, and Texas, with the current owner buying the car in November 2012 from a San Antonio, Texas enthusiast.

The seller says it’s “quite evident” that this Corvette has “NEVER” been in snow or on salty roads “as the frame keyholes and other frame components readily show” and he also has photos of the birdcage and body mounts taken during previous work on the car.

The previous owner told him the car enjoyed a body-on restoration at some point, but the invoice doesn’t indicate the year.

Check the Craigslist ad for complete details, but suffice it to say the seller has detailed information about all the work done on the car over the years. And it’s quite a laundry list.
