[PICS] See What the Corvette Engineers Drove to Corvettes at Carlisle

One of the annual treasure hunts at Corvettes at Carlisle takes place in the very back parking lot of the show which is used for vendors, media, and special guests. And nobody is more of a special guest then those members of the Corvette Engineering Team.

Every year the GM engineers drive a Captured Test Fleet (CTF) vehicle which they use for testing and feedback, and its such an incredible perk. As they are fleet vehicles, they are not allowed to be used as show cars, which is why they are not with the other cars in the GM tent or on the show grounds.

This morning when we arrived for Day 1 at Carlisle, we found them parked in the VIP lot and there were 12 Corvettes all line up and ready for this photo shoot.

It’s an interesting group which contained the following models

  • 4 ZR1X
  • 1 ZR1
  • 2 Z06
  • 5 E-Ray

  1. The C8 is certainly a step up for Corvette. To join the so-called “major leagues” and for marketing purposes, Corvette had to step up to a mid-engine design. Having said that, I still prefer the C7 for overall style and day-to-day usability. Unfortunately, Corvette will always be faced with a difficult conundrum. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. Likewise, a Corvette is and always will be a Chevrolet.

  2. I prefer the first one (black) and the purple (last) one because they are the only 2 that DON’T have black wheels. Black wheels on black tires in a black wheel-well add nothing to the appearance of most cars. Call me old-school and while I’m obviously in the minority nowadays, you will never see boring black wheels on my C7 or on any of my vehicles.

  3. Those wheels are too “spokey” and too light……before you know it, they will put chrome wheels on the new ‘vette: YUCK!!!!

    Black wheels FTW
