It seems like we blinked, and the 3rd week of August was upon us! With that, the automotive world turns its collective eyes to California’s Monterey Peninsula for the annual spectacle known as Monterey Car Week.
The 10-day event is automotive nirvana. It features multiple car shows, driving tours, a racing reunion, OEM reveals, and more across the scenic Monterey area and culminates with the renowned Pebble Beach Concourse this Sunday, August 17th. It doesn’t matter if you’re into pre-war classics, Italian supercars, or old-fashioned Detroit Muscle. Monterey Car Week has something for everyone.
The Pebble Beach Concours highlights the week’s activities while the auctions give buyers a chance to procure their next dream ride. Just like the January auctions, Monterey draws all the big houses to town. The catalog sizes tend to be smaller here while the quality, rareness, and desirability of the lots offered are simply off the charts. Just take a look all the ridiculous hyper cars and early classics offered for sale.

We haven’t assembled an Ultimate Auction Guide here in a while so why not jump back in with a look at the Corvettes up grabs in California this week?
Monterey features five major auctions over the course of the week. Mecum kicks off first on Wednesday, the 13th with their daytime auction while the Broad Arrow, RM Sotheby’s, Bonhams, and Gooding Christies sales take place in the following evenings.
As we go to press, we see 44 stellar Corvettes crossing the block this week with all eight generations represented. Mecum leads the way with 31 lots followed by eight at Bonhams. Broad Arrow and RM Sotheby’s each have two Corvettes on the docket while Gooding has one.
Early Corvettes dominate the generational breakdown of available Corvettes this week with nearly 80% of them coming from the first 3 eras. Mecum offers cars from the first 6 generations thanks to their comparatively larger docket. Bonhams covers 4 generations and the others cover 1 or 2 generations. If you want a Corvette built after 2014, head to Broad Arrow, Bonham’s or Good Christie’s as they’re the only ones offering C7 or C8 Corvettes.
Here’s a look at how things break down per generation and auction house plus the location of each sale this week.
Mecum’s docket contains some of the most desirable Corvettes out there. The red 1967 L88 continues to make the rounds as its search for a new caretaker goes on. Other rare birds include a pair of 1971 LS6 cars finished in Brands Hatch Green. Select either the coupe or go topless in the convertible. There’s also a pair a C1’s in seldom seen Aztec Copper – one from 1956 and the other from 1957. A loaded up 1967 convertible rounds out the factory-correct lots with its mile-long list of options. Finally you’ll find an assortment of restmods including a fantastic 1958 built by Kindig-it Design.

Broad Arrow’s Corvettes cover both ends of the spectrum of Corvette performance. The white on red 1957 fuelie represents the highest performance of its era while the 2,500-mile 2015 Z06 convertible demonstrates what today’s technology can do.
RM Sotheby’s is the place to be if you love red Corvettes. The classic red on red 1958 convertible features the 250hp fuel injected variant. That C1 is flanked by a stunning red on red 1967 coupe featuring the 400hp L68 engine, air conditioning, and an automatic transmission.

Heading over to Bonhams, we find a mix of new and old Corvettes. The early cars feature two 1963 split window coupes including a Z06 from the Vic Edelbrock Collection that was previously owned by Bob Bondurant. How’s that for provenance? The available late model cars include three C8 Z06’s plus an 8-mile C7.R convertible in yellow.
Finally, the folks at Gooding Christie’s bring us a 2019 ZR1 convertible finished in black over black and just 1,817 miles on the odometer.
