Attention: procrastinators! if you weren’t in line in time to procure one of the 100-or-so first-year examples of Chevrolet’s new 1,064-horse hypercar, here’s your chance to remedy your embarrassing situation for the low-low price of $450,000 – only about double the original MSRP! Sarcasm aside, with so few ZR1s managing to escape from Bowling Green, the market price is going to be high, it’s just a question of how high. People aren’t exactly kicking in the door for that $500,000 one in California, so, what to do for the second try? How about a 10% discount?!

Interestingly, this ZR1 – number 44 – also originated in California and was delivered new to Camino Real Chevrolet in Monterey Park. Somehow, being the first person willing to break GM’s one-year owner-retention policy wasn’t enough, the buyer also decided to load ol’ 44 up on a trailer and treat it to a reverse Cannonball Run. Now it finds itself on the showroom floor of Staten Island’s Status Auto Group with a $450,000 sticker in its windshield.

That’s a lot to ask, but to their credit, this ZR1, is an absolutely stunning spec that is sure to stand out as a ’25 forever! It features one of the two colors that aren’t to be seen again after the abbreviated maiden voyage of the most powerful RWD production American performance car in history. That would be the B-21 stealth bomber-approved Sea Wolf Gray that made up just 16 of the initial 302 accepted orders. How many of those actually made it through the recent gauntlet of buyer disappointment that cut that number by around two-thirds remains to be seen, but it is sure to be an exceedingly rare hue.

On top of its uncommon and subdued exterior duds, is your scribe’s favorite interior, the Habanero trimmed Competition seats with the black sueded microfiber inserts, deviated orange stitching all around, and the “stealth” and carbon fiber trim packages. To match this bright interior, it also has orange calipers peeking out from behind its carbon fiber wheels (as listed, but they sure look like the Carbon Flash 20-spokes to us in the dark photo), and a pair of Edge Orange racing stripes that keep it from being identical to the example that has been my wallpaper since embargo day.

It is apparently still being touched up for official photos, so there’s just one on the Status site, but a full list of options has been included. On top of everything obvious that we’ve already gone over, #44 also features the carbon fiber aero package, complete with the “surfboard” out back – though, interestingly, the ZTK suspension isn’t mentioned, so it’s a standalone big-wing car. The chin splitter-protecting front lift is present, as are the LPO mirror caps in exposed carbon fiber, which are always a nice touch, and major options are rounded out by black exhaust tips and lug nuts.

This as-new monster shows just 25 miles, but, as a technically used car still well within the “no-sell” window, the status of its factory warranty is obviously in question. So, if you just have to have the latest and greatest but don’t own a NASCAR team and a string of dealerships, be sure to pick at those nits before parting with the better part of half a million dollars! Even at double what Chevy says it should be sold for, honestly, the new ZR1 is so amazingly potent that it’s still a decent value. Remember, “Mr. H” dropped a cool $3.7 mill on his, and its two closest competitors – the Ferrari SF90 and Lamborghini Revuelto, both of which aren’t as fast, powerful, or patriotic – are still quite a bit more expensive if you can even get one at MSRP. A lot of people might scoff at the very idea of paying even a penny over sticker, but this car is sure to be worth more than the asking price in short order, and the common refrain is that you should get the best ‘Vette you can afford, so, we say go ahead and smoke ‘em if you got ‘em!
