This latest news from General Motors regarding their carbon fiber issues should infuriate anyone trying to order a new Corvette, and dealers should be furious at how their Corvette buyers are currently being treated. Buying a new Corvette from GM is no easy feat these days, and even if you think you got your perfect spec sitting at 3000 status, our question to you is, “are you sure?”

Late last week, dealers learned that some of their customer’s previously accepted orders at 3000 status for the Z06 with the visible carbon fiber aero packages have been downgraded back to 2000 status and the T0G visible carbon fiber aero package has been removed from their orders. Customers are then given two choices, change the order to T0F carbon flash-painted carbon fiber, or remove the wing and dive planes from their order entirely.

One dealer tells us that these downgraded orders were first placed during February’s order cycle, and he had never seen GM go back to an order accepted months before and just uniformly remove an option like the Aero package.

However, the news is apparently worse for anyone whose order included Sea Wolf Gray or Rapid Blue which have been discontinued for the 2026 model year. Those whose Z06 orders that were downgraded back to 2000 status may not be able to get their chosen color now, which is a real dagger to the heart as our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com are calling this.

During the NCM Bash, GM touted their ability to get carbon fiber aero for its new ZR1, but now it appears that renewed focus may have come at the expense of Z06 buyers, many who have been patiently waiting for their ability to order a Z06 without aero constraints for years.

Having just gone through the order process myself, I think I would have a hard time wanting to go through that process again, especially when there are many dealers selling discounted cars from dealer stock. Utilizing the Chevrolet Live Inventory Tracker, it’s a lot easier these days to find an available stock unit that checks off “most” of your desired boxes instead of going through the ordering process and waiting months for a car that you’ll pay a premium for.

Anyone can see that this is no way to run a car company when your best customers are constantly getting hosed while trying to purchase your most expensive vehicles.

Here is the email that went out to dealers last Friday:

To: Select Chevrolet Dealer Operators

Attn: New Vehicle Sales Managers, Inventory Managers
Subject: 2025 MY Chevrolet Corvette Z06 1YH** Order Change

“You are receiving this message because you have submitted at least one 2025 MY Chevrolet Corvette Z06 order with RPO: (T0G) Carbon Aero, with Visible Carbon Fiber.

Due to a supplier issue, all Z06 Order(s) at Event 3000 are being returned for the removal, or replacement of RPO (T0G) Carbon Aero, with Visible Carbon Fiber.

For further processing of effected order(s) T0G can be changed to (T0F) Carbon Aero, with Carbon Flash-Painted or removed from the order entirely.

Your DSM and ZM have further details on the affected order(s) and should be in contact with you to help with any questions.

Returned orders must be updated by COB Thursday, May 8th, 2025.”

Update
One of our dealers said he was able to reorder his customer’s Corvette in one of the colors that is being discontinued at the end of the year. That is welcome news for the buyer who keeps the color he wanted, and he can always add aftermarket aero to it later.

  1. What good is it to build and spec the car the way you want it and spend 130K+ if GM can’t actually build the damn thing?

Don’t offer it if you can’t build it.

  2. I have a ’24 Z06 that i ordered in June ’24 and picked up end of August ’24. I could not get any of the carbon fiber aero (visible or painted) and had the option to place the order without or wait for the next cycle. I placed the order and picked up a non-OEM front aero that I had put on after delivery. Had I waited, i would still be waiting as the carbon fiber parts have been on constraint since then and continue on.
I can tell the difference between the OEM version and what I have, but it’s close enough. I wouldn’t want to go through this process again of having to do things in the aftermarket, especially for something that impacts the exterior surface. Shame on GM and Chevrolet for this situation – it’s been going on far too long!

  3. This is God’s way of reminding you that visible Carbon Fiber parts are overplayed and fugly–and you should avoid them.

  4. I passed on my ZR1 allocation due to a lack of CF, and the guy who took it was then later offered CF because the dealership didn’t start back at the beginning of the list, and I understood even though I didn’t like it. But here we are three months later and Z06s at 3000 are being bumped back to 2000 for CF constraints. Meanwhile, no ZR1s have hit the street yet and there’s no telling what kinds of issues they may discover. The price of the ZR1 coupled with my rapidly diminishing confidence in GM have me rethinking the ZR1, and that’s IF I get another allocation. SMH

  5. It all started with a no production car acumen CEO Mary Barra & if no one else has noticed almost every tenured man who has left the company for whatever reason since then has been replaced by a woman hand picked by Mary. Gentlemen it is only going to get worst since Mary has staked the future of GM on EV.

  6. Barra will blame Trump. Maybe she thinks GM can sell all the ZR1s they can make. The market for a “production” $200,000+ car is not there as there are plenty of better choices for people with tons of discretionary income.

  7. GM could easily sell tons of ZR1. But they’d have to forgo offering visible CF bits. And they’d need to save costs by trimming all of the bloatware, spyware, and other assorted CONSTAR crap.

They should be flying off the shelves by now. Instead, there’s an absurd stop to production because of the carbon fiber hold ups. GM could and should offer all Corvette’s in the 1st MY without any CF options. If you want one–you can’t get the CF stuff for the first production year. That way cars can still get produced–and there aren’t insane slowdowns. Don’t even tease allocations to those fapping to CF. Mandate full-stop that there will be no CF offerings for MY #1; for ANY new Corvette model.

  8. I got my z-06 feb 26. 2025. Waited 3 years 11 months. Car is nice but I hope it drives out better with some miles. Now with d110 miles it’s rough. Kyle adkins

  9. Looks like no CF for anyone. I ordered a CF rear spoiler for my 2018 hellcat. Item on back order since Jan. 2025.

  10. I was one of the ones that was affected by this. Sucks to have something you’d wanted for so long and be lucky enough to get such a limited option that most people can’t get, only to be taken away at the end. What’s crazy, is my order had the carbon fiber aero on the allocation and was “accepted by GM” on Feb 17 which was my birthday! I was like OMG NO WAY. GM took my birthday present from me it feels like.

GM could have at least done something to compensate for such a crappy move but nope. Or maybe they still will, we’ll see. I know if you don’t have a part, you don’t have a part. But this is an issue that shouldn’t have happened in the first place and should have been fixed YEARS ago. The C8 also isn’t the first generation to have dumb constraints dragging on and on either.

So I’ll be getting the painted carbon flash aero, which I do like carbon flash and it will at least match the other parts on the car that comes in carbon flash anyway. I don’t know if I’ll replace them with carbon ones later but we’ll see.

  11. Same here as my 2025 Z06 order was accepted Feb. 18th. The order was sitting at 3000 for months. Today I get a call from the dealer saying that none of the CF except for the wheels on my order was available, thus the delay with the order being built. I was given the option to change everything to carbon flash or cancel. During my research I’ve come across this site and decided to post. CF for the C8 has always been an issue, however GM/Chevrolet has decided to keep allowing the customer to place an order for CF knowing damn well that most of the ordered CF will not be available. I’ve waited 3-years to get this car and thought the saga would be over soon once my order hit 3000 this past Feb. GM/Chevrolet need to realize…people will always remember how you made them feel. With that being said, after all of these years of being a customer of GM and my father being a 35-year retiree, I’m done with this brand.

  12. A “World Class” sports car deserves a world class buying experience.

We all get that the dealer service experience will be strictly Chevrolet, but the buying experience should be up to snuff at minimum.

I pity the poor concierge folks dealing with rightly irate customers.
