It looks like we have a new C8 Corvette ZR1 world record quarter mile set by a familiar name.
Will Farmer has been setting records in Corvettes for some time now and he seems to have a knack for maximizing the performance from the cars he drives as he you will see in the video below.
We last wrote about him when he broke the record for the 2023 Corvette Z06 with a time of 10.26 seconds at 134.31 mph and that was with the car wearing stock Michelins. A month later he ran it with drag radials and skinny front tires and went even faster with the C8 Z06 running 9.98 @ 135 mph.
In this new video, Will is back at Maryland International Raceway (MIR) for an attempt at breaking the current stock ZR1 record held by Brooks of DragTimes. Brooks tested his ZR1 Coupe with the high wing removed and ran a time of 9.270 seconds at 153.30 MPH back in December at Bradenton Motorsports Park.
MIR is known for its prepped track and very low DAs and it looks like conditions for this run were ideal. In fact, you can hear the track “gripping” the tires as Farmer stages his car for that first run.
Farmer’s “Hendrick ZR1” is also a Coupe but features the base aero package instead of the high wing. We also see the car is equipped with the visible Carbon Fiber wheels which also helps with removing around 40-lbs of unsprung weight from the car vs those with the alloy wheels.
For the first pass, the Farmer and his ZR1 ran 9.704 seconds at 152.62 MPH. Not bad considering, and with some adjustments to the custom launch control, Will’s second run netted him a time of 9.47 seconds at 151.04 MPH and a third pass got him to 9.30 seconds at 154.17 MPH.
On the fourth pass, Famer takes the record time with a pass of 9.269 seconds at 152.21 MPH.
Returning to the staging lanes, he thanks Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Buick GMC and Mr. Hendrick personally for all he’s done for him over the years. “Gee wiz, what a car. As I said about the Z06, it just flies!” He also has a personal message for “Mr. Brooks” and invites him to “Come up to Maryland and see what you can do,” and adds, “He’s fast, but as we all know…at Maryland International, that’s where records are set.”
After adding that time to the record books, we were thinking that the day’s festivities were over, but Will had one more pass and that ended up being the fastest time yet with a time of 9.161 seconds @ 153.91 MPH. In the graphic shown at the end of the video, Will provides both the RPM and Slip settings used to make his record setting runs. We also see that he did the runs while using 98-octane Sunoco unleaded fuel.
