This is the Weirdest Order Cycle for the 2025 Corvette ZR1 Yet

With today being the start of the re-order cycle for the 2025 Corvette ZR1, we were hoping to hear that Chevrolet contacted their dealers with their new constraints on the visible carbon fiber high wings, so those orders could finally be placed. But according to the dealers we spoke with today, that never happened. At this point we do not have any idea as to the number of available high wings for this first round of orders.

It was Chevrolet Marketing which paused the initial orders placed in February as they looked to find the new high wings. We think what may be happening now is that these ZR1 orders are being managed out of Detroit with dealers working through their zone reps to confirm which orders are requesting the high wing. Dealers will receive confirmation on which of their orders are available to be upgraded to the high wing, and then those orders will be able to be resubmitted. These orders have to be in the system by Monday evening so at some point Chevrolet will have to confirm yea or nay with the dealer, right? RIGHT?

What’s weird for dealers right now is that if they check the order system, it’s showing zeros for allocations and constraints for the order cycle, even if the dealer had a ZR1 order pushed back from 3000 to 2000. As we said yesterday, those ZR1 orders then went all the way back to 1100. One dealer told us that if you run a “Locate” report, those initial ZR1 orders are there at 3000 status. Untouchable by the dealer, but they are there. Maybe that’s how Chevy is keeping track of the orders that were originally submitted. Just my speculation.

We’ll check back again tomorrow as the ZR1 ordering saga continues. Hopefully, those ZR1 customers waiting to hear from their dealers will be able to catch a few ZZZs tonight!

Because GM so suddenly reversed on the original 100% constraints on the high wing has many Corvette watchers wondering how GM was suddenly going to find a supply. One of the rumors we’ve heard lately is that another carbon fiber supplier is coming online to work with Corvettes. We hope that’s the case because the carbon fiber aero for the Z06 has consistently been on some sort of constraints since production first started in October 2022 and we think the ZR1 high wing order rates will initially be heavy as well.

  1. No different than the high wing constraint that plagues the C8 Stingray from day 1. I think they are still on constraint. They were on constraint almost the entire 2023 order cycle, I couldn’t get one when I ordered mine but got lucky that my dealer ordered one for an accessory when they actually could order and held onto it until one of their customers wanted one, which turned out to be me. GM really needs to get back to the days when they had back up suppliers in case the primary supplier couldn’t either meet the volume or couldn’t supply at all. That’s the way it used to be.

  2. The C7 ZR1 high wing was attached to the frame. If the same is true for the C8, I don’t think it will be very easy to just install a properly functioning aftermarket carbon fiber wing on it. And I don’t think I would want mine to be the $200K+ test car.
