The order bank at General Motors is open for another round of Corvette orders, with today being the first day that dealers can tag and release orders for the upcoming 2025 Corvette ZR1 as well as the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray.

It’s been a long time coming, and in fact I can trace our first real C8 ZR1 story going back to November 25, 2019 when MotorTrend said it would be a Twin-Turbo DOCH V8 Hybrid with 900 horsepower. Well, they were almost right.

Ordering day for the ZR1 is here, but unfortunately so are the constraints. Really, GM? This is a sports car that starts at $174,000 and you don’t have a single wing available for it’s very first customers? I’m sorry, but there is no excuse for this and Corvette buyers have a right to be furious over the lack of aero. And it’s not just ZR1 as once again we have limited aero this order cycle for the Z06 which is now in its third year of production.

I’m going to say it and it hurts me to do so, but…they just don’t seem to care. I sound like a broken record, but here’s a novel idea: Don’t launch a new car unless you can deliver all the components as advertised. You wouldn’t sell the ZR1 without an engine, so why sell it without its aero package which is one of the highlights of the ZR1 ownership experience?

The sales reps aren’t happy either. Here’s what one Chevy sales rep said to me this morning: Seriously…why even start production yet. It’s unreal. Hype a car so much. Then when it comes time to order, not available.”

Another rep summed up more succinctly: Want a ZR1? You’re f*cked!

Here are the constraints for February’s Corvette Order Cycle. The constraints for the Z06 and E-Ray are limited quantities so some dealers will be able to order the following equipment:

2025 Stingray
• No Constraints

2025 E-Ray
• CFZ Carbon Flash Ground Effects w/o T0F
• CFV Visible Carbon Fiber Ground Effects w/o T0G

2025 Z06
• T0F Carbon Flash Painted High Wing
• T0G Visible Carbon Fiber High Wing
• CFZ Carbon Flash Ground Effects w/o T0F
• CFV Visible Carbon Fiber Ground Effects w/o T0G

2025 ZR1
• SU1 Visible Carbon Fiber Wheels – 0 Available
• T0M Visible Carbon Fiber Aero Package – 0 Available

To those of you who are able to order the ZR1 today, congratulations! Even if you are moving forward with your order despite the lack of aero, we total understand your predicament and it’s still going to be a great car regardless.

  1. If someone reading this wants to wait for their specifications to be available, I will take your allocation.

  2. GM is getting worse and worse about this. Their marketing department works harder than their design department.

Couple that with the Corvette crowd having a fetish for all things carbon-fiber, and you have a recipe for excruciating production delays. Of course, GM could simply offer carbon-flash or body-color CONVENTIONAL parts instead of visible carbon fiber…but that would never occur to them as a consideration.

The same group of geniuses (inside GM and out) who believe that selling a cosmetics-only Grand Sport C8 makes sense…are the same people to whom it will never occur that GM should consider offering non-carbon-fiber cosmetic parts for. After all, if it’s about cosplay and looks, then fiberglass or urethane parts in carbon flash are 99.9% as good as genuine carbon fiber painted in carbon flash.

  3. Why do you think they all got fired. This article pretty much sums it up. Good riddance.

  4. “This is a sports car that starts at $174,000 and you don’t have a single wing available for it’s very first customers?” Guarantee Rick Hendrick’s $3.7 million dollar ZR1 will have one.

  5. When do they expect to have the aero parts? Will they be putting these on the cars at a later date when the parts come in?

  6. I agree this is GM being quite stupid. If you can’t find suppliers, I can point you to some aftermarket guys who can crank out quality parts within a couple months, and yet with 3 years of Z06 production we still can’t fill the aero parts quotas.

I thought all along that ZR1 would be a constraints-driven model. This is proving me right. GM will never “build as many as we can” like Tadge said, because they’ll never have the parts in hand for what everyone wants.

  7. Exactly…… point. Which is one reason to buy the basic car and put all the Contraints on your self at 1/4 of the price. Which is what I did with my Z06.
