Bloomington Gold completed its second pit stop at World Wide Technology raceway last week just outside of Saint Louis. Hundreds of Corvette enthusiasts convened in the shadows of the Gateway Arch to celebrate all things Corvette at the Granddaddy of Corvette shows.
The two-day June tradition gave attendees to view some of the best and rarest Corvettes on the planet. At various locations around the show grounds you’d find C2 and C3 L88’s, several fuelies, a 1963 Z06, countless big blocks, historic racers, and several striking C1 Corvettes. Balance that with the multiple C4 ZR1’s and a C5 Z06 and you’ve got a well rounded selection of Corvettes for attendees to drool over.
Gold Certification judging is always the main event at Bloomington Gold and roughly 70 cars competed for the coveted Bloomington Gold Certificate this year. A select few others added Survivor and Benchmark honors to recognize their unrestored and well preserved status. Once again, all the judged cars were tucked safely under the cover of the World Wide Technology Raceway garage area.
The Gold Collection was located adjacent to the judging area with its 2026 theme of Red, White, and Blue Corvettes. Inside the air conditioned room was an outstanding collection of Corvette history including the #49 Greenwood racer, the red/red 1967 L88, the earliest known C2, the first known C3 coupe, and many other significant Corvettes. We’ll have a separate piece dedicated to the Gold Collection coming up in the next few days.
Back outside venders were lined up along the garages selling their latest goodies. Industry staples including Mid America Motorworks, Corvette Central, the National Corvette Museum, and more greeted old and new customers throughout the weekend. The swap meet located at the end of the garage area presented treasure seekers with a chance to find that sought after Corvette part.
This years Gold School seminars featured talks from Byrce Burklow of the NCM, Scott Hoke from Mecum Auctions, and Bloomington Gold founder, David Burroughs, among others. Kevin Mackay talked about finding, acquiring, and restoring significant Corvettes then led the crowd outside to demonstrate the race prepped L88 engine display his team had built.
The newest attraction at Bloomington is the 1.25 mile oval track. This gives eager owners the chance to drive the same track that IndyCar and NASCAR use. The glorious engine sounds echoing through the grounds drew trackside spectators like moths to a flame.
After two years in Saint Louis, Bloomington Gold appears to be settling in to their new location. The areas used for the show seem to align with the event’s draw and the availability of track time adds another dimension to the show itself. If you missed this year’s show, don’t fret. With the exception of that white C8 E-Ray with all the childish writing and drawings on it that is a stunning collection of Corvettes. The L88 engine is awesome.
The White E-Ray (and several other super cars including a Z06 and ZR1X) belongs to Revved Up Wishes who give super car rides to Make a Wish kids. The white on the E-Ray is a wrap and they allow the sick kids to decorate the car. All profits they raise go directly to Make A Wish. https://revvedupwishes.org/
Steve Aww man I would’ve never knocked that E-Ray if I knew that and I apologize for it. I just thought it was another car owner who’d gone insane junking up their nice car with an off the wall crazy looking wrap since you see so much of that nowadays. I was not aware Revved Up Wishes was using Corvettes for that purpose nor does it say anything about it on that E-Ray.
What was the attendance like? I used to go every year starting in about ’01, but I found it to be slowly declining in its more recent years, and the ’21 show was my last in what felt like an empty venue. Scant numbers of vendors, cars for sale, and spectators.
