If you don’t want to draw attention to yourself, don’t drive a Corvette.

That sage advice was never more true than in a recent traffic stop all the way across the pond in Greater Manchester in England.

Greater Manchester Police noticed an Arctic White C7 Stingray coupe “cruising around” the city Friday night and for no apparent reason other than the make of his car ordered the driver to pull over.

That’s when the cops discovered the Corvette driver didn’t have a license and ordered that his car be confiscated. No word on how long the car will be detained.

The police made the announcement about the “big crime wave” in a post Saturday on X:

“Yippee Ki-Yay partners, this American muscle car was cruising round Manchester when it came to GMP Traffic’s attention.

“Pity the driver didn’t have a licence covering his use of the mean machine on public roads.

“Driver reported for no licence and his Corvette seized.”

A quick search of the internet found the driver could face a fine of up to £1,000, three to six points on your license, a restriction on their ability to get a full license for a period of time, and a criminal offense.

  1. Used to be that way here. Driving a car in Europe is considered a privilege. Here it is considered a “right”. Rules there guidelines here(or pirate code here).

Not sure where “here” is for you, but in US, the police have -never- been allowed to pull over a vehicle simply because of its make/model. Nor has driving in the US ever been considered a right, certainly not today.

  3. Live in California. You don’t have to be a citizen or be able to read and write English to get a drivers license. Cannot tow a car if the driver is unlicensed and it is estimated that 40% of drivers have no insurance. You cannot pull a car over simply because of the make. In Los Angeles officers cannot pull over vehicles for mechanical violations because it is considered discriminatory towards poor people. That is why I say driving is a right here. Cannot speak for the rest of the country but our state accounts for 28% of all vehicles registered in the United States.
