Editors Note: I’ve been told that another video shows the car to be an E-Ray, so we have updated it here.
Hey! You can’t park there…
Sorry folks, but that joke never gets old!
Tail of the Dragon at Deal’s Gap is an 11-mile stretch of two-lane road designated US 129 that runs in the Great Smokey Mountains between Tennessee and North Carolina. It’s one of the top driving destinations for sports car owners and motorcyclists and it can be a blast to drive. We recently shared this video featuring 80 Corvettes making the Tail of the Dragon run just last month.
Over the weekend, I saw this photo cross my feed on social media countless times. The pic features a Blue Corvette E-Ray Coupe that appears to have slipped off the road while running the Tail of the Dragon. As you can see, the car was resting precariously on the side of the mountain, but luckily it was still near the roadway instead of slipping further down to make the recovery even more difficult.
Brad Morgan posted the photo on the Tail of the Dragon Facebook Page with the simple caption of “Ooops!” Since his post, its racked up 791 comments and 179 shares.
It’s always unfortunate to see a Corvette in a pickle like this C8 parked at a 45-degree angle off the roadside. But from what we can gather, the driver most likely only suffered just a bruised ego from the crash and will live to tell one heck of a story.
The official Tails of the Dragon website offered a storm update following Hurricane Helene. They say it actually passed over them and revealed the eye of the storm for a few minutes, but left the area virtually untouched compared to other areas in North Carolina and Tennessee.
As you can see from the photo, the leaf colors are beautiful this time of year, so it’s okay to slow down just a little bit so you can take in the experience and still drive home afterwards without an incident such as this.

Another Corvette owner who thinks Panelli Jones when fact should be driving a Preus🤣
Boomers gonna boom….
Hey John, I would be willing to bet, it was more like a Gen-X or Millennial, I am a PROUD Boomer, as you call us, I did something like that when I was in my 30″s, now that I am in the backside of 60 part of my life, I am not that stupid to try something like that, so unless you know for sure how old that person was, just hold your stupid comments to yourself.
Hey John Spartan, I think you hurt Phil B’s feelings LOL
Man has got to know his limitations.
It begs the question, would she, Danica Patrick, have slid off the Dragon, if the C8 was all wheel drive?
Thanks,
Ray
If you want to call yourself a Corvette blogger you might want to get the model correct. It is actually an E-ray, Many of the social media sites are calling it a Z06, but there are other pics out there clearly showing it is an E-ray.
It’s an E-ray, not a Z06.
Phil B. is most likely correct in his assumption. I’m a last year Xer and this is some stupid shit we, or most likely a millennial would do.
I didn’t know the dragon was in Georgia got to keep learning new things all the time LOL
As an old geezer (74) and having just completed the Ron Fellows Spring Mountain course in a Z06, I got to say, that I learned a lot about me and the car. Old habits die hard, and I believe that most drivers of the Z06 don’t really understand their own driving skills/limitations or the car. I certainly didn’t. You want to learn how to drive hard and safely, go to Spring Mountain. After all it is provided to every Corvette owner within one year of delivery. Go for it, it was a blast.
Actually theres a backside shot of the car being pulled out that showed it was an E-Ray.
Comment to the comments here. Not all Corvette owners are considered good drivers. Not that they can’t drive but that there not ready for what comes with the newer model Super cars and they don’t have the real experience behind the wheel when something goes wrong. Which is why if you want to enjoy your Super car to the fullest you should take a class to learn more about it. Even the experts make mistakes but they know what to do to correct it before they run off the road. Please don’t take this the wrong way. If I’m spending that kind of money! I want to do it right so I can enjoy it. Thank you & God bless!
