Earlier this week we caught sight of a 2023 Corvette Z06 that was said to be within an hour’s traveling distance from the Tail of the Dragon, that famous stretch of US129 that sits on the North Carolina/Tennessee state lines. Did the Z06 just travel the 11 miles and 318 curves that make up the Tail of the Dragon? Without asking the driver, there is only one other way to find out!
We hit up the photo archives of killboy.com, a photography archive that sells pics of the motorcycles, cars, and trucks that travel on the Dragon, and sure enough we see the camouflaged Z06 making the run with a few friends in tow. I purchased these photos of the 2023 Corvette Z06 that appeared to be traveling with two C8 Stingrays and a new GMC Hummer. FYI, there is also a Porsche and a Camaro in the shots adjacent to these, but as they were missing the large antennas on the Corvettes and Hummer, I excluded them from being part of the group.
As we outlined earlier this week, the Z06 is wearing the Z07 Performance Package based on the aero on the car, however, its corner mounted exhaust tells us this is one of the older Z06 mules that haven’t received the new center floating exhaust upgrades. And before you can say “E-Ray,” we have yet to see any E-Ray prototypes with anything other than the standard Z06 widebody and seriously doubt that any of the E-Ray prototypes would be wearing a full Z07 aero package.

I know the carbon wheels are better for track driving but i think the non carbon wheels are much better looking. It’s going to be challenging to pick the carbon wheels for me. The new red interior color looks great.
The PERFECT road for the Z07!!! This is the whole reason I want to live in Knoxville, to be closer to the Tail.
I see no reason why this couldn’t be an E-Ray in development. If you draw the parallels with prior Grand Sports & Z06 releases, then why couldn’t the E-Ray have the option of the more aggressive aero package if it is essentially the same body work?
Also if you think about the value of some front wheel electric motors it should stand out testing on a tight set of corners like Tale of the Dragon. Good location to see how well the electric and ICE power is blended together with braking etc. Tale of the Dragon is on and off the power/brakes constantly. This would reveal annoying traits in the power delivery and braking area.
And thirdly, why bother with camo if this is a Z06/Z07? It’s been publicly announced. Whereas if it is an E-Ray then there may be some small tell tale things that would give it away if not for the camoflage.
