[VIDEO] Watch 80 Corvettes Take on the Tail of the Dragon

Most driving enthusiasts on this side of the USA have heard of the Tail of the Dragon. It’s an 11-mile section of US Route 129 on the North Carolina-Tennessee border that boasts a total of 318 turns!

A travel group called Smokey Mountain Drives took a group of around 80 Corvettes to “slay the dragon” and this slick video shows just what a great time it looks like everyone had. You can see additional photos on the Vettes Versus the Dragon Facebook page.

This footage is a recap of our inaugural event that was a massive hit! This was three full days of mountain driving, from September 6th-8th, 2024. Our inaugural event had over 80 Corvettes from 19 different states and Canada. We split into several different drive groups so you will be placed in a group based on your experience and desired pace.

Our 2025 event is September 12th-14th, 2025. For three days every September, we will drive over 600 miles of the greatest roads our country has to offer. The mountains of Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina are home to the greatest driving roads in America, including the legendary Tail of the Dragon with 318 curves in 11 miles, the Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner 28, Hellbender, Blue Ridge Parkway, Foothills Parkway, and many, many more. We are local to the area and take you through all of the iconic roads you’ve heard about, but through hundreds of miles of equally fantastic roads that are much less travelled and only known by few. If you do it there is photographers around most curves to take your picture. I did it about a month ago in an Escalade. Yeah, I know.

Don’t waste your time doing this drive with a Corvette club/meet-up. There will always be that one j@goff that drives way too slow and holds up everyone behind them, thus basically ruining the entire drive.

I’m not saying you need to attack it like it’s a race, but when some assclown in his NB sneakers and jorts turns it into a Sunday drive, it ruins it for everyone. I did it on a weekday when there was very little traffic.
