[VIDEO] Should Corvette Replace the Outgoing Camaro in NASCAR?

If you were to take a look at Chevrolet’s vehicle portfolio at this moment in time, you would find just three cars available in sea of trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. The Camaro, Malibu, and Corvette are the last remaining Chevy cars, and those first two will be gone forever in just a few months, leaving the Corvette as the last car standing.

While Corvette enthusiasts are certainly okay with this development, the same can’t be said about Chevy’s legion of NASCAR fans who will soon seen their Camaro ZL1s replaced. But the big question is replaced with what?

Our friend Brad Hansen of the Retro Cars Forever YouTube Channel thinks he may have some answers. Turning to AI for some inspiration, Brad thinks that Chevrolet’s NASCAR teams have just four different options with two of those nameplates being the Corvette as a possible replacement. Brad suggests the other two options may be to look at any other cars remaining in GM’s portfolio (Cadillac?) or use a crossover SUV (Trailblazer?).

As for the Corvette, you’ve got multiple issues to work through, most seriously being the location of the engine placement as NASCAR requires those powerplants to be in front of the driver. And then there would be the actual resemblance to the street car which NASCAR has been striving for with these latest generation stock cars. The other idea is to leverage the Corvette name should those rumors of an EV Sedan come to light. Yet, trying to sell an EV that races with a V8 in NASCAR sounds counter to GM’s EV mission.

Brad also touches on the whole “Corvette as a its own brand” rumor that seems to be moving forward if you believe all those rumors about an ICE-powered SUVs and four-door EV Sedans.

As someone who watches his share of NASCAR, we can see the implications of whatever Chevrolet and GM Racing decides will be huge once it’s time to replace the Camaro ZL1. Check out Brad’s video and then let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Will Chevy replace the dead Camaro with a Corvette in NASCAR Racing? Or will GM switch to Cadillac, or even (gasp) a crossover SUV? Here’s what my research (and AI imaging) reveals!

  1. A Corvette racing in NASCAR? NO WAY IN HELL! It would be a shame to see Corvettes wrecked during a race due to the insane ego and supreme attitudes that almost of all the NASCAR drivers show every weekend to the fans and their team owners. Let those guys keep wrecking Mustangs, Toyotas, and now the “Never Sell On Monday what Won On Sunday” lost Camaro.
Racing is not Wrecking in all forms of Car Racing, except NASCAR. So NO Corvettes in NASCAR.
    Thanks for listening.

  2. A Cadillac would be the most likely course of action, but I would not rule out a crossover, given the configuration of that BEV mule they unveiled last weekend in Chicago.

But a Corvette in NASCAR? Hell no. This world is already clown enough, so no need to make a mockery of this car. Besides, it is already represented in its rightful place in endurance sports car racing.

  3. Cadillac is the only way to go…it has the basic shape and you’d have to ugly up (which is saying something) the Vette to make it look NASCARish

  4. First off, this is a Corvette in name only. So those preaching from upon high can give that a rest.

What cars are left in the GM portfolio? Not much. Caddy makes sense, maybe, but that could be way too upmarket.

I propose the Suburban. Extra long. 🙂

  5. Nascar is a sport that is almost dead. Just watch a Nascar race on TV, the stands are half empty.

  6. Corvette in NASCAR does not make sense. I can definately see a crossover or a Cadillac.
