[VIDEO] GM Will Now Cover the Warranty of this Corvette Z06 that was Reported Flipped

We have been waiting for an update on the 2023 Corvette Z06 owner whose warranty was blocked because GM determined his car had changed ownership just 24 days after taking delivery. Last night he uploaded a new video, and it looks like his issue has been resolved.

As a quick update, “Corvette Posse” waited over two years for his 2023 Corvette Z06 to be built and shipped, and he was there at the dealership as it rolled off the transporter from Bowling Green. His delivery took place in June 2023, and he even received his 500K GM points in January. But his troubles began when he recently took the C8Z back to same dealership for his free service visit. The service manager showed him a printout that showed his Z06’s warranty was blocked due to violating GM’s Z06 Retention Policy, so they were unable to change his oil. The dealership then reached out to GM, and we’ve been waiting over a week to hear if there was a resolution to the story.

While he was waiting, CorvettePosse had a CarFax report run, and it definitely shows it to be a one-owner car. On 5/27/2023 the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Department reported shows the car was purchased, titled, and registered as a personal vehicle. On 6/22/2023 the lien was reported, and the color noted as Black.

This is where GM likely flagged the car as flipped. In July, he applied for a personal tag from Arkansas, and he received his plate and new registration. He says he bolted on the plate and threw the new registration into the glovebox without looking at it. Unbeknownst to him at the time, the DMV screwed up his first name for the vanity plate registration. When the Chevrolet service department entered the information from that registration, it showed the wrong first name.

CorvettePosse says that he received “an odd call” from a GM representative a couple days ago stating that the warranty block had been removed and he was “good to go to go do your thing.”

While this Z06 owner now has the factory warranty he was promised by holding the car longer than six months, he notes that the conversation from GM didn’t include any apology for the huge inconvenience. He also has some choice thoughts about the retention program, which he says did nothing to deter dealers from gouging their customers.

We are glad the issue is resolved and that CorvettePosse can know once again drive with the peace of mind of knowing his car has a warranty. This sounds like it was a simple DMV mistake which an automated GM DMV look-up correctly identified that the first name had changed, but failed any due diligence which would have shown the owner had the same last name and same address on the registration. However, he did get his 500,000 points six months after ownership, so GM must have a couple of processes in play to determine if a car has been flipped. The bottom line is if you are within that six month retention window, anything you do with the registration has the potential to raise a red flag back in Detroit. Do your due diligence because GM won’t do theirs when it comes to your warranty.

  1. Guess GM has to now sell cars since the market has changed with inventory and falling prices. Funny how the worm turns.
