[VIDEO] Five Suspects Bail from a Stolen C7 Corvette But Can't Hide from Police Chopper's Night Vision Camera

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, comes this wild and crazy series of car chases in the Bay Area last weekend.

It all started early Sunday morning while several law enforcement agencies were conducting a collaborative effort to try and thwart illegal driving behavior like street racing and sideshows, and it all came to an eventual end with the arrest of five suspects facing multiple charges.

Infra-red aerial video shared by the Hayward Area California Highway Patrol on Facebook shows an empty C7 Corvette coupe rolling away after five – count ’em, five – people had somehow jumped out of the two-seater vehicle and ran in the opposite direction into the marshlands to try and elude lawmen.

But that was the second vehicle involved in the chases.

The first pursuit had actually started just after midnight Sunday when a white Dodge Charger was spotted by a CHP officer going more than 130 miles per hour on I-880 near Hesperian Boulevard. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office air unit located and tracked the Charger as it exited on Tennyson Road, fled onto I-880, and traveled through Oakland and across the Bay Bridge into San Francisco, where a Glock handgun was tossed out of the window onto the sidewalk.

A few minutes later, the three occupants of the Charger piled out and somehow managed to squeeze into a waiting C7 Stingray. Members of the Regional Side Show Enforcement Team (RESET) tried to stop the Corvette, but it fled at speeds of more than 160 miles per hour on US-101 towards Redwood City, all the while being tracked by the ACSO air unit as it headed back to Hayward.

CHP eventually used information from the air unit to deploy a spike strip that quickly deflated the Corvette’s tires as it exited the freeway onto Eden Landing Road, where the five suspects fled on foot into the marshlands. They were all eventually captured, thanks to the group efforts of ACSO K-9s, drone team, air unit, and Hayward Police Department patrol units.

The Corvette and the discarded Glock pistol were both determined to be stolen.

“After several hours of dangerous and reckless activity, all five suspects were arrested,” Hayward Area CHP said in a release. “The stolen Corvette and stolen handgun were recovered, and the Charger was impounded for 30 days. This incident is a great example of how we work hand in hand with our allied agency partners to keep our communities safe.”

  1. Consider the cost to catch these guys and the time involved. I would wager the 5 captured were home before the arresting cop. Open the season on Corvette Thieves and allow buckshot…..lol

  2. I wanted to watch the video but it kept playing for only one second and would stop over and over. I looked inside my C7 Stingray Coupe and figured the only way you could fit five idiots in it would be to squeeze three in the front and two in the rear hatch.
