[STOLEN] Carvana Sold a Stolen C7 Corvette Grand Sport to an Unsuspecting Georgia Man

One of the happiest days for a Corvette enthusiast comes when they first climb behind the wheel of their car.

That dream experience has turned into a nightmare for a Savannah, Georgia man who says he bought a Torch Red 2017 Corvette Grand Sport convertible from Carvana, only to find out just hours later that he had been sold a stolen car.

“I couldn’t believe it, man,” Kirkland told a reporter for WJCL 22 News. “I thought I was being pranked.”

It was no prank. When police ran the temporary tags on his Corvette, they discovered the car had been stolen in Florida and quickly had it towed to an impound lot in Savannah.

“So many people have contacted me like, ‘I can’t believe they sold you a stolen car,’ How did it pass the insurance because the insurance people insured it? How did it pass the registration — the DMV? What did it go wrong,” Kirkland said.

Good questions for sure. Kirkland’s brother Adrian posted a TikTok video about the situation that went viral, and to their credit, Carvana quickly took care of the situation, giving Kirkland a full refund for his purchase and offering to find him another Corvette. They say he is a victim of a “sophisticated fraud” and are working with authorities and Kirkland to clean up the mess.

Still, Kirkland remains upset, believing it should never have happened.

“You know, a billion-dollar corporation, why are you selling people stolen cars? It could happen to you, and that’s the reason we took to TikTok. It could happen to you,” Kirkland said.

  1. Poor policy at Carvana that allowed themself to purchase this Corvette from who ever they bought it from. No mention of that. Who is the ‘double’ their? 1st they steel the Corvette then they sell it.
Yes, they unknowingly sold a stolen car. BUT Carvana bought the car, so they are victims as well!

  2. This is the second time here lately that Carvana has been in the news for selling a stolen vehicle.

  3. Vroom, a similar company to Carvana, did this to me as well. Purchased a vehicle, waited 9 months for the registration to be sent, kept getting temp tags from them. Ended up driving around with expired temp tags. Got a call from them telling me they needed to purchase the vehicle back from me without an explanation. I agreed, they paid me all of the payments I paid, they picked up the vehicle and I never did business with them again.

  4. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY DESERVE IF THEY VENTURE AND DO BUSINESS WITH THESE DREAD-AWEFUL GAGGLE OF MANIPULATIVE SCAMMERS THAT IVE EVER SEEN WORK UNDER ONE ROOF. THE TRAINING MODULE IS BASED ON LYING ANYWAY YOU CHOOSE/TAG TEAMED WITH FRAUDULENT PRACTICES TO UNLOAD UNSAFE NON-INSPECTED USED VEHICLES to the American people at high margins.
I went through the wringer and still I’m dealing with the piece of shit that they DUPED me into by electronically putting my name to a reinstated contract and I have proof via audio and documents. Strangely, can’t get a damn attorney to take the case. Hopeless, I contacted the Attorney General of California Rob Bento with documentation on the forgery of my signature. The inspection records performed by certified Volvo mechanics revealed alarming tread depth that were beyond safety requirements set by California Vehicle Code, Division 12, Section 24000 for resell of used tires on cars. Front inner wall tires that could have exploded off the rims. Executives continuously lied and said my registration was coming as my temp tags expired, causing loss of employment delivering flowers with a well-known florist in Venice. A filed report with Department of Motor Vehicles in California, including this paperwork also to Mr. Bento. Only to receive correspondence, denying assistance with my claims of safety and infringement of my rights. Thank Mr. Rob Bento and staff on a job well done advocating for my safety and well-being as well for that of others that are driving on the freeways of this wonderful state of California. Keep up the great work, don’t change one thing with what you’re doing keeping consumers out of harms way financially and ethically from corporations like Carvana. I’m so proud to have you representing the State of California as the Attorney State General.
