[VIDEO] Sunfire Yellow 1967 Corvette L88 Sells at Mecum Glendale 2024 for $1.8 Million

Mecum was in Glendale, Arizona last week and one of their featured consignments was this ultra-rare 1967 L88 Corvette in Sunfire Yellow which crossed the auction block on Saturday and was sold for $1,650,000. With the buyer’s commission tabulated, the total out-the-door price of this collector Corvette was $1,815,000.

For that price, this piece of automotive history was very well-bought as previous estimates had this Corvette selling for $3 Million or more. It’s also surprising to see this Corvette had the reserve price dropped and hammered sold considering that two years ago the same L88 Corvette was sold for $2.65 million at Mecum Glendale 2021. With these high priced collector cars, there are often deals being made behind the scenes and in-between auctions so we might not have the full picture of what actually happened here. But I got to ask? Did the seller of this ’67 L88 really take a nearly $1 million loss on this car?

1967 Corvette L88

This Sunfire Yellow L88 Corvette is the only known 1967 Corvette L88 to have its original engine intact. This also the only original-motor C2 L88 to have earn multiple awards, including multiple NCRS Top Flights and the NCRS Duntov award, Bloomington Gold certification, and the MCACN Triple Diamond. The car was also part of Bloomington Gold’s 2018 L88 Explosion.

The car famously underwent a 10-year restoration before being offered for $3.95 Million by Corvette Mike back in December 2019, and it’s also known to be the only ’67 L88 offered from the factory wearing Sunfire Yellow. Check out the auction action from Saturday at Mecum’s Glendale sale:

UPDATE
Rick Treworgy purchased the car from Mecum Glendale in 2021 and unfortunately, he passed away in October 2023. The sale of this L88 Corvette was handled through his estate.

  1. The old saying “A fool and his money is soon departed” is still true today. There are some folks who have so much money, they just don’t know what to do with it,so they just throw it away. Because they can.
