[SPIED] Here's Another Look at the C8 Corvette ZR1 at the Nurburgring

We know interest in the new C8 Corvette ZR1 is pretty high so we picked up another set of spy photos showing the all-new KING running the Nurburgring in Germany this week. These photos show the Corvette ZR1 prototype at the Carousel and we feel this set really shows off the new intake/vents on the car. You can see our first set of ZR1 photos here.

These photos come from Brian Williams/Spiedbilde and we get a really great look at the car at its travels through the famous Carosule section of the German track. By now I am 100% convinced that the car has turbos and not the AWD system like the E-Ray. The turbos would generate quite a bit of additional heat and these new ducts will help to keep that new engine cool.

As we had learned previously, the ZR1 will have the LT7 DOHC engine which we believe to be the Z06’s 5.5L small block with twin turbos on each side of the engine bay. Where they will be exactly mounted is unknown, but they will probably be in the engine compartment instead of the exhaust area based on what we can see from the rear of the car.

One area we really wanted to look at was the frunk. We were able to zoom in on the front frunk and see that there is a rather large opening with screens inside it. I am betting that ZR1 buyers will be losing some of the frunk storage area, but as we can also clearly see the panel gap where the frunk is, so perhaps there will be some storage space retained after all.

The new ducts in the ZR1’s rear quarter panel might be for the turbos as the duct we see where the Z06’s “spear trim” resides, but we suspect that Chevy engineers are also looking at brake cooling due to the additional horsepower. The cutaway model that we hope is on display during the reveal will hopefully show off all the new plumbing involved in keeping the car cool during heavy track sessions.

We also mentioned the possibility that the ZR1 would have active aero so we zoomed in on the two stanchions that hold the rear wing and it’s possible that there could there be some articulation of the wing angle based on how the posts fit inside the mounts. If the team really wanted to test active aero on the Corvette ZR1, the Nurburgring would be the perfect track to do so.

The 2025 Corvette ZR1 will be revealed sometime during 2024 with the car currently targeted for a 2025 model year release.

  1. The rear wing is getting a little goofy big, is it not? I doubt whether it’s even functional at under 125 mph.

  2. Some great pics. Interesting, looks like 2 small cameras on the roof. Curious what the second one is for. I am guessing there will be 2 areo packages. One with the zo6 wing standard and the second with the bigger wing that looks like it has active areo. I believe you can see the space where it has the ability to move. Similiar to new gt3 RS. It’s going to be the new bench mark. Would be cool to see them do a hot lap with the Z06 and the Zr1. Time will tell. Twin turbos for sure, never been a doubt in mind. The track king and speed king.

  3. Dealer mark ups will put the starting price on these at $250K+…such a shame that only the uber-rich and well-connected will ever get to experience driving one.
