[SPIED] 2025 Corvette ZR1 Prototype Captured Idling at a Colorado Gas Station

It’s always a fun week when the Corvette engineers are captured testing a new upcoming variant of the C8 platform, and this week’s testing revealed more than usual due to the team driving round with uncovered wheels on what we think are the 2025 Corvette ZR1s

But that’s not all!

A second sighting shared on Friday showed two of these prototypes passing a car which filmed them driving by, and the lack of an audible engine note or exhaust has some people speculating about what exactly is powering the upcoming supercar. While the ZR1 was originally thought to bring us an 800-hp Corvette powered by a twin-turbo equipped LT6, others have suggested the LT6 will be paired with the E-Ray’s battery-powered AWD system, and the twin-turbos will only show up later on the ZORA. Whatever is powering these cars, we now have evidence that it’s definitely not an EV as some has suggested.

Speculating is part of the fun when guessing what the engineers are bringing us next, and this video sent to us on Saturday by a reader named Ron Droel will crack that door open even wider as one of the prototypes was spied with its ICE motor at idle at a Colorado gas station. Ron puts his camera right down next to the prototype’s quad exhaust while the car was at idle, and he was standing behind it as it started to pull away. Do you hear any forced air induction happening here?

This walkaround by Ron also shows the “Split Window” rear engine hatch. We’ve only seen this design feature on these C8 ZR1 prototypes that were previously spied back in June testing Colorado and this is that exact same car based on the license plate. Of course, it could just be the GM camouflage team seriously messing with our emotions when wrapping these cars and attempting to shield the motor from public view, so take this return of a split-window coupe with a grain of salt.

  1. The ZO6 has more than enough juice on tap. It’s gittin’ a tad ridiculous, even pointless in the quest for h.p. bragging rights.

  2. Zora Arkus-Duntov will be rolling over in his grave if there is ever a return of a split window coupe!

  3. The ZR1 has the Z06 flat plane crank 5.5 liter with twin turbos. Because of the twin turbos, the motor will still sound like a Z06 only a little quieter, during normal driving or idling. Not until WOT will there be more induction or forced induction noise.

  4. All this hype about a Corvette that the average Joe will never own. All this FOMO is a waste of time. Enjoy the Corvette you currently own as we see the government jamming EVs up our butt over the next couple of years.
