[SPIED] C8 Corvette Prototypes are Testing in Colorado

While many Corvette enthusiasts are glued to TV watching the Corvette C8.R at Le Mans, a group of Corvette engineers have been spied out west driving prototype C8 Corvettes in the Colorado mountains.

The photos were posted to the Colorado Car Spotters page on Facebook by Dennis Koss who says there was a fleet of six cars in attendance.

At first we’re thinking this is a group of ZR1s undergoing high altitude testing. We are seeing four heavily camouflaged prototypes in a hotel parking lot. Of the four prototypes, we only see one with High Wing areo. A Torch Red Convertible Z06 is also in the group.

Or is that an E-Ray and these are all ZORA Prototypes?

The Red Convertible is showing outboard exhaust instead of the quad-center we would see on the Z06. While this could be an export version, the appearance of the red testing plugs on the back of each prototypes makes us wonder if perhaps they have already electrified the ZR1, which is what the ZORA is expected to be.

The ZORA is rumored to be the ultimate C8 Corvette sports car, with an electrified twin turbo DOHC flat plane crank V8 with a eAWD that could make 1,000+ horsepower.

The other rumor surrounding the ZORA is said to be the return of the split window design on the coupes. I know Chevy likes to mess with us on the camo design, but it sure looks like there is a spine running down the Coupes, as well as the big wing car.

We did compare the license plates on these prototypes to the ZR1 prototypes seen a couple weeks ago with the Porsche GT2 RS in Detroit, and none of them match.

It’s Saturday night and I admit that there’s a lot of speculation in this post, but we’re just like pointing out what we see. Regardless of what they are testing, it’s always fun to see the engineers out there working on the next great Corvette! Keep ’em coming guys!

  1. Those familiar know that Mr Duntov detested the centerline spine over safety concerns on the 63. This said, I cannot see a split window arrangement being practical on this current architecture, but just my $0.02

  2. The split window on the one and only year ’63 makes it iconic. Pointless to revive that styling cue as it would be pointless. Just a ‘cheap throw-back’. My understanding for the ’63 split window was the result of a manufacturing difficulty to produce a one piece. Regardless, let it be….

  3. The split window on this car c8 gen. would appear very random and out of place. Zora hated the split window as we all know so this will never happen on a car of his namesake….

  4. Saw these cars on the road in Silverthorne today. All I can say is that they all had a deep, throaty exhaust note.

  5. Ya and now the Split Window is one of the most sought after and most collectable Corvettes out there. I think it will depend on how they incorporate it into the rear hatch. Maybe as an optional Pkg.
