It’s not always easy to track down the history of a car, but this 1962 fuel-injected Corvette convertible can trace its ownership accurately for at least the past 39 years.
The current owner of the car purchased it way back in 1984, but after an extensive refurbishment in 2020 and a subsequent NCRS Top Flight award in 2022, he’s decided to part with this black over red beauty on Bring a Trailer.
With four days left in the auction, interest has already been sufficient to push the highest bid to $66,666.
Unfortunately in some circles, this car doesn’t have its original engine, with a replacement 327 V8 instead that’s been bored .030” over and fitted with a rebuilt Rochester mechanical fuel injection system, along with off-road mufflers and a re-stamped engine stamp pad.
That refurbishment also included a new black paint job, along with new red upholstery that contrasts nicely.
Other features include a four-speed manual transmission, Positraction differential, 15-inch steel wheels with dog-dish hubcaps, color-matched side coves, heavy-duty-style brake system with front brake ducts, vented backing plates, and finned brake drums, and replacement black soft top and windshield. Two features that are missing, however, are a radio and a heater.
The new owner will also receive NCRS judging sheets from the Top Flight award judging where it received a score of 97.2, NCRS Shipping Data report believed to show the original dealer was Lace Motor Sales of Oregon, Illinois based on poor microfiche, and manufacturer’s literature.
