[SPIED] C8 Corvette ZR1 Prototype Spotted with Uncovered Wheels in Colorado

A Colorado Car Spotter captured two C8 Corvette ZR1 prototypes driving through the state, and the big reveal here is that this is the first time we’ve seen the ZR1 prototypes with uncovered wheels.

The prototypes that were spotted both have the forged aluminum Z06 spider-design wheels on the fronts, but the rear wheel on the front car shows a new design that has yet to be revealed. And that’s what is weird about this sighting is that Chevy never showed the wheels for the prototype Z06 or the E-Ray until they were properly revealed to the public, so why are they showing this mixed set-up now?

Back in May, a YouTuber named Supercar Ranch says he discovered what he thinks were the wheels for the ZR1 prototypes and he made a video that unfortunately is no longer available, but luckily we had screenshot it for our post. Supercar Ranch says the leaked wheel was found on eBay, much like the first visible Carbon Fiber wheel sighting for the Z06 which ended up on the auction site before they were pulled and recovered by General Motors. However, he never sourced the URL or the eBay link for these and we were unable to confirm the legitimacy of the find at the time.

As you can see from the Supercar Ranch image, the ZR1 wheel pic seems to match perfectly with the shot of the lug nuts that were viewable when the round covers were on the car. Now when looking at the Colorado prototypes, the ZR1 wheels appears to be concave with two levels of spokes radiating from the center.

Another interesting point is that lead car has a license plate that shows “05M563” and that was one of the same prototypes driving in Colorado back in June based on the similar license plate.

  1. This wheel reminds me of the Pontiac Trans Am wheels…however with slightly wider spacing at the rim’s outer edge. Less weight at the outer edges reduces negative centrical forces…smart. I’m okay, with this wheel’s design, but it’s not specifically unique. Seems to me that Chevrolet would want a very distinctive wheel for its C8 ZR1, maybe they will.

  3. It’s another unattractive weird looking wheel with too many spokes and way too many windows to have clean in. Why can’t they come out with a stylish modern looking five spoke wheel or five spoke split spoke wheel for once on the C8?

  5. If they’re more sturdy than c7z and c7gs wheels, then I think they’re on the right track. You’re right, I’m still not ready to let that sh*t go.

    Looks wise? Very modern, very exotic. After all, we’re getting into the hypercar playing field, so they should match their rivals by design. I think they’ve met their mark.

  7. There are plenty of nice wheels out there already that I’d prefer. Would be better to focus efforts on the power-train and reliability and stop fussing about silly, superficial stuff.

  8. hey one of the reasons we buy these cars is to rub on them when were not driving them so no problem with having to clean them once in awhile
