Corvettes for Sale: 270-Mile 1989 Corvette Offered on Facebook

In case you ever wanted to buy a new 1989 Corvette back in the day, here’s your second chance.

We found this Bright Red ’89 with only 270 miles on the Low Miles No Miles Facebook Group in the Morganton, North Carolina area. Don’t expect a discount from the MSRP, though, as the seller is asking $37,000 for this rolling time machine.

Sold new by Stanley Chevrolet in Stuart, Virginia, this Corvette listed for $34,775 after adding a blue lift-off roof panel for $615, black leather bucket seats for $425, six-way passenger power seat for $250, engine oil cooler for $110, radiator cooling boost fan for $75, heavy-duty radiator for $40, and performance axle ratio for $22 – in addition to $1,193 for Corvette Preferred Equipment #1 that included air conditioning, six-way power driver’s seat, and Delco-Bose music system with AM/FM stereo radio with seek and scan, cassette, and digital clock.

Included at no extra charge in the base price of $31,545.00 are things like a 5.7-liter tuned port injection V8 engine that produced 245 horsepower, along with niceties like an automatic transmission with overdrive, power rack and pinion steering, power windows and door locks, tilt-tele steering wheel, and power ABS disc brakes.

As you might expect, the car appears perfect some 34 years after leaving the Bowling Green factory. In the big selection of photos included with the listing, the digital dash still lights up correctly with no error codes on the nearby panel. “100% original except for a new GM Delco battery” is the way the seller puts it.

Included with the car is extensive documentation, including the original window sticker, an inspection certification from the Virginia State Police in August 1989 that indicates an odometer reading of 3 miles, the original Virginia motor vehicle registration dated Aug. 30, 1989, and the original owner’s manual in a leather holder.

The last inspection sticker on the car expired in 1994, so it appears likely that all the 270 miles were put on the car during the first five years and it’s not seen action on the road in nearly 30 years. What would you do with this Corvette if you bought it?

Having purchased a similar car (but with red interior) in 1989 from a Georgia dealership, this Corvette really brings back memories. If anyone knows what happened to VIN 3862, which I sold to a gentleman from Fort Valley, Georgia a few months after I got married, I’d love to hear where it wound up. Fortunately, I do know where my wife Cindy is as she is still riding in my Corvettes all these years later.

  1. That’s a perfect example, wow! I think I’d have to take that one to Bloomington for judging and drive it a bit after putting new tires on it! I bought a new ’85 with the 4+3 transmission and I really enjoyed that Corvette. Loved that Dashboard, Tuned Port Injection and the Bose Stereo. Glad I don’t have a bigger garage.

  2. Curious — what would possess someone to buy a run-of-the-mill, non-investment grade Corvette, one of over 26,000 produced in ’89, drive it less than 300 miles, squirrel it away for 30+ years, then sell it and get less than they paid for it (way less, once you take into account the time value of money)? Hope the owner at least enjoyed looking at it from time to time.

  3. It’s going to need some work, they don’t like to sit. And besides, how the hell does someone do that. Buys a nice sports car and then it sits in a garage for decades and then sells it?? Trying to make money, couldn’t even enjoy it. What a moron. I think 37k is pushing it.
