[VIDEO] Chevrolet Responds to Speed Phenom's Denial of 500K Rewards Points for Not Flipping His Z06

I’ve been a little late in getting some of these new YouTube videos up from Speed Phenom. While some of you may be fine with that, it appears the young Corvette owner has gotten himself into a pickle with two recent incidents that now has him thinking differently about General Motors and the new 2023 Corvette Z06.

While Speed Phenom’s first issue with GM has been about getting the tires changed on his visible carbon fiber wheels without damaging them, we are going to talk about his second issue which is that he says he has been denied the 500,000 My Chevy Rewards points valued at $5,000 for owning his 2023 Corvette Z06 for at least six months.

Chevy instituted the non-flip policy that originally told owners they would have to hold their Z06s for 12 months, and then it was reduced to six months. The policy states that buyers of flipped cars will not have the factory warranty transferred, and the seller would be blacklisted from purchasing other in-demand vehicles from General Motors. A form is presented to all Z06 buyers of which we have the original version to share.

The YouTuber picked up his Corvette at the National Corvette Museum on November 8th although his paperwork should have been completed several days earlier and in advance of him taking delivery. The NCM R8C delivery program has nothing to do with those required forms that acknowledge the six month no-flip policy and our understanding of the process is that the dealer needs to maintain those forms “in the deal jacket and made available to GM upon request.”

Where I am concerned about this situation is that Speed Phenom says his request about the points was escalated and “management from GM rewards looked at my situation and they decided, no, I do not get the points.” Speed further states that representatives from the Rewards Program explained to him that he didn’t follow the correct protocol to set up his Z06 on his GM Rewards Account during a 90-day window. He describes the call as being “matter of fact and to be honest it was not a pleasant experience.”

We reached out to Chevy in advance of publishing this story and this is the statement we received today:

We are working with Austin to fully understand his situation and clarify program rules for all 2023 Corvette Z06 owners. It is important for all customers taking delivery of a 2023 Corvette Z06 to enroll in My Chevrolet Rewards within 30 days of signing for the vehicle to be eligible for the 500,000 points awarded to owners who keep their vehicles for 6 months, in addition to the points earned from the purchase of the vehicle. Points are awarded 45 days after reaching the 6-month ownership threshold.

In a follow up response regarding the 45-day period after reaching the six-month anniversary of ownership, Chevrolet told us:

“The 45 days is what allows GM to verify with each state’s Secretary of State office or equivalent that the vehicle is still registered to the original owner. States each report out on different timelines so that’s why we use a 45 day buffer.”

According to Chevrolet’s official statement, you have to sign up within 30 days to My Chevrolet Rewards to be eligible to receive those points. That’s where it sounds like Speed Phenom let the ball drop, although he says no one told him to do so. The original announcement mentions you had to be a member of the Rewards Program. The other thing I didn’t know until quite recently is that you also get points for initially purchasing the car as well, so make sure you are signed up to the Rewards Program as soon as you make your purchase.

  1. Speed Phenom shows his rewards account on the video. It looks like his dealer dropped the ball by not having him fill out a form to acknowledge the procedure. By taking deliver at NCM some of the paperwork dropped through the cracks. I call B.S. on Chevrolet’s part. Love or hate him, Austin has been an absolute walking driving billboard for the C8 Z06. Add to the facts that his Z06 sits on blocks in his garage because no Chevy dealer will install tires on his “factory carbon fiber rims”. Chevrolet should be embarrassed by the treatment Austin is receiving. I own a 2023 Stingray and had a horrendous dealer delivery experience. Maybe GM should consider taking Corvette away from Chevrolet and sell cars through Corvette dealers that are dedicated to a higher standard of service and customer satisfaction.

  2. How do you know of the 30 day time limit if no one tells you? Is it in fine print somewhere that he missed? I fully expect some dealers/salesmen to not know of all the “facts” anymore than the rest of us.

  3. Ya I don’t really care much. I’m just happy no vids of the spoiled high maintenance bimbo are on here. I do know that I have about had it with the local Chevrolet Dealers.

  4. So i guess he plans on flipping this soon, can’t stand these spoiled you tubers, him and the bitch. I have leased 2 Malibu’s and bought 3 new Chevys’ in the last 4 years, I got my reward points, my dealer told me about it and I all I had to do was sign up the one time.

  5. 1) Kid starts his own business at 17
    2) Makes enough money to buy some American supercars
    3) Starts a YouTube channel based on his love of cars
    4) Jealous a**h*l*s call him spoiled for literally acheiving the American dream.

Whatever, you people that do #4 are so petty and your jealousy is painfully obvious. If you don’t like him, don’t click on articles about him or his videos. Quite simple, really.

  6. I did not know we have to ASK to join the Rewards Program, my dealership must have signed me up because I got points for the purchase of my 2020 C8. I’ve owned many brand new GM products but have never been in on the Rewards Program, curious how many points I would have if I did know about it?!

  7. I would suggest that many that have taken museum delivery are in the same boat and don’t know it. I find his videos informative and his own experience is what he’s advocating here. I could see how this detail could be overlooked in the excitement of getting a new Z. I hope Chevy will do a better job of educating the customer about this and any other matter that might impact new owners. I will say, I’m surprised Austin isn’t already a rewards member due to owning two other C8s in the past.

  8. I just picked up my Z06 at the NCM yesterday. Still in bowling green driving home to NJ today. When I was completing my transaction with the dealer I was instructed to download the my Chevy app which also involves completing the rewards program. When completed I was happy to see that I got over 30,000 points just for the purchase of the Z06. My dealer handled everything on line or electronically. As I have said before choose your dealer carefully. MacMulkin is the best in my opinion and I paid MSRP. I’m very happy.

  9. Every GM vehicle i have purchased in the recent past (3 Camaros and a C7 GS), big and small dealers – all of their paperwork included the Rewards program. In most cases they waited until i created or updated my account to make sure it was set up correctly. I don’t know which dealer Speed Phenom bought his car through (I would think it had to be one of the biggies since he got his Z06 so early into production) but it’s just hard to imagine that it wasn’t brought up during settlement. I’ll give the kid the benefit of the doubt….

  10. I got an email to sign up for my rewards, so I did got points and bought accessories with them.
I get points every month for my Chevrolet remote.

  11. Well, nothing on the no warranty if flip within 6 months states any procedure or existence of the 500,000 points. Did Austin get the points for buying the car? I did. This is something my sales specialist Rick Conti made sure of. I sent an article to your site for publication. Not published. It should be. Now I’ve spent 2 days with on star as fine print does say your on star account needs to be “linked.” How is it linked? In my review only Chevy published one notification on line about the 500,000 point program. You should be able to google that and get all requirements. I believe other Z06 owners didn’t get their points. In my last conversation with on star they appear to know nothing about linking their account. Chevy failed in many ways. One nothing is on the form as to the requirements and hoops you must go through. This will be the 3rd day I’m trying to verify things. Yes my new Z06 is in “my garage” but is that “linked”? Frankly this should be an automatic program (although in my rewards it said points automatically. Please Chevy review all purchases and give people what in part the compensation for your restrictive sale practices. Chevy you should clear this up ASAP with a direct letter to all Z06 purchasers. I’d like to see where the 45 day rule extension is where they verify. That in effect extends the restrictions another month a a half. Confusing the top buyers of their products some who paid well over sticker is unwarranted. Why has not Chevy worked on ADM’s and reimbursing those that had to pay ADM’s or helping dealers get the equipment they need to service these high end products. Chevy should give dealerships throughout the country so a customer has one within 100-200 miles.
