Pieces of this 2001 Corvette were left scattered along I-75 in Florida on Wednesday after a high-speed crash sent two teens to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened in Pasco County in the southbound lanes of the interstate near Overpass Road.

An 18-year-old man from Spring Hill, Florida was driving the Corvette at a “high rate of speed” when he lost control, swerving to the inside shoulder, striking a guard rail, and sliding across three southbound lanes before stopping on the west shoulder.

The impact apparently knocked the engine out of the car, leaving it lying next to the guard rail, while various other pieces of the car – including tires and body panels – were also scattered along the emergency lane.

The driver and his 18-year-old female passenger had to be airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. Police say they both were wearing their seatbelts.

The crash snarled traffic temporarily in all southbound lanes of I-75 as the scene was cleared.

  1. Hard to picture how this C5, even travelling at a high rate of speed and swerving, could have hit what appears to be a continuous guard rail hard enough to rip the engine entirely out of the car. I would have thought that most of the car’s momentum would have still been in the southbound direction, and therefore would have been along the guard rail, rather than perpendicular to it.

  2. It ain’t the parents fault, thik back and remember how close You came to crashing when you were 18-24ish.. At 18 , i spun out several times and got lucky by doing no damage to my ss396, then the 70 GTO that would run the speedometer past 160 and separate those Goodyear PolyGlass tires at will. Still Lucky. I Love being Lucky…..peace2All

  3. ‘Too much power an’ far too little common sense are a deadly mix.
I pray both kids survive an’ recover fully…
… ‘giving them the opportunity to learn from this horrific event.

  4. Damn kids, showing off to the girlie I suppose. Kids this young need some training to drive a car like that, at least they were smart enough to be belted in. Ya no mention of MPH. Not the parents fault, can’t watch them 24/7. Teaching them right from wrong and hope for the best. I think most of us tried stunts like this back in the day, I did lol. We didn’t have cars with these capabilities back then either. Scared the shit out of myself a few times, but I learned from it.
