Even a celebrity that has elevated himself to monopolistic status as THE name in his field over a 40-year career that includes membership in two separate halls of fame, more than 25 film credits, and an estimated net worth of $400,000,000 can’t resist the siren song of capital appreciation.

Even though he isn’t really a serious “car guy,” by his own admission, when he heard about the 2019 Corvette ZR1, Michael Buffer, the most famous public address MC in the world, knew he had to have one. After throwing his name in the ring in 2018, he took delivery of ZR1 #444, a “low-wing,” 8-speed, 3ZR coupe with the model’s signature Sebring Orange Design Package. Now, after putting just under 4,500 miles on the 755-horse monster in four years, Buffer has decided to send it through Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. There’s no word on whether Buffer will take over auctioneer duties when his slice of American performance history crosses the block on Friday, January 27th, but he will be on hand for the festivities.

Since debuting as the most expensive Corvette in history with a base price of $122,095, the one-year-only swan song for the C7 – and for original recipe front-engine Corvettes, in general – the limited-run ZR1 has seen an early valuation hot-streak that is unprecedented in General Motors history. Even during what should be its “run-of-the-mill” 1-5-year-old used car phase, low-mile specimens with “the right options” have regularly traded for around a quarter of a million dollars in the past two years. Bidding on Buffer’s car is expected to start at $200,000, and if the man whose introductions got Sugar Ray Leonard hyped for a fight takes the mic pre-auction and throws down a “Let’s get ready to… spend a lot of MONNNNNEEEEEYYYYYYYY,” there’s no telling how high the price can climb for this particular 1/2,953th of production that has just one notable owner on its CarFax.

To sweeten the no-reserve pot, Buffer is also throwing in a signed pair of boxing gloves, and, on top of joining the ownership fraternity of one of, if not the baddest American car ever built, the high bidder can feel good about themselves as a portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Forgotten Dog Foundation, an LA-based non-profit that is dedicated to rescuing animals.

  1. I don’t understand why Corvette dropped this color for the new orange. Nor why they are holding up the pearl/metallic white. At least we have Cacti… : /
