Corvettes for Sale: 1972 Corvette Barn Find Wears VIN 006

Low-VIN Corvettes have always been intriguing to enthusiasts.

For example, we told you recently about the earliest known C2 Corvette – a 1963 bearing VIN 003 that just sold over the weekend at Mecum for a whopping $467,500.

Today, we spotted another low-VIN Corvette, but from the third generation and in not nearly the same condition as that immaculate ’63 roadster.

A seller in Naples, Florida is offering a 1972 T-top coupe that was the sixth one produced in St. Louis that year. The eBay auction runs through next Sunday, and so far the high bid is $6,500.

First, the positives about the car. It still has the matching-numbers drivetrain, though it’s the base 350/200 horsepower engine connected to a four-speed manual transmission.

The original owner drove the car some eight years and 73,000 miles before missing her driveway one day in the summer of 1980 and winding up in a small ditch, cracking the front end in the process.

A man in the same town then bought it, worked on it “some” and then put it in the corner where it remained until about six or seven years ago when a friend of the current owner bought it and again wound up putting it in the corner.

Naturally, after all these years, the car needs a lot of tender loving care throughout. The second owner bought a new nose for the car in the ‘80s, but it’s just been sitting in place for years. It’s likely the engine will need more TLC to get it running again, and the interior appears to be a total gut job.

To help the process, the listing does show several boxes of parts, including the chrome bumpers.
