More Secrets about 2024 Corvette E-Ray Come to Light

Last week’s reveal of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray shocked many Corvette enthusiasts as it finally put into focus many details of the upcoming hybrid model. This is despite the fact that we’ve been tracking the model as far back as 2019 when the first mules were spied in Colorado.

The E-Ray Visualizer leak confirmed three major details about the car. First, is the name E-Ray which was trademarked way back in 2015 and then renewed in 2020. Second is the model year 2024 with the fine print of the Visualizer stating the car will be available in “Summer 2023.” The third confirmation is that the Corvette E-Ray will be a widebody model with an LT2 V8 engine.

But there were several unexpected reveals offered as well. Nowhere on the car could we find a charging port for the hybrid system which seems to confirm the rumors that the E-Ray is a performance hybrid whose batteries will be charged when the car is being driven. The Regen on Demand button gives the user some control over that system but how it will be utilized isn’t known.

We were also surprised to learn that the 2024 Corvette E-Ray will have its own Performance Package when the ZER box is checked. The visualizer leak shows the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires as part of the upgrade, as well as the underbody strakes which increase aero efficiency. The ZER box will also have to be checked to equip the car with the Carbon Fiber wheels. Will the ZER package also include the Carbon Ceramic Brakes? The visualizer leak shows the rotors to be cross-drilled so that’s still in our unconfirmed column as of now. We also didn’t see any kind of “high wing” aero accessories on the car, but the MECF member who also captured screenshots said he saw the Z07 High Wing just before the E-Ray Visualizer was shut down.

Here are a few things we didn’t see from the Visualizer, but can be expected on the new E-Ray:

With the new model will come new E-Ray-specific animations on the infotainment screen, and there will be an E-AWD light that is illuminated on the Driver Information Center (DIC). The infotainment screen will also share data about the E-AWD system that includes the system charge level, gained boost, and even calculated fuel savings (Thanks to Rick Conti for that info.)

We are also hoping for a stealth driving mode option which allows the car to be driven at low speeds under battery power alone. This is one option we are unsure about as we have no details about the electric propulsion system which may include a 1-speed electric transmission needed for electric-only driving. The battery hybrid system may include one or two front electric drive units, and the package is expected to push performance to around 600-hp and torque should increase substantially over its 460 lb-ft from the stock LT2.

Finally, with availability listed as Summer 2023, we expect the reveal to happen early next year. Our hope is that Chevy can make this the shortest period ever between a reveal and the start of production so that customers aren’t left hanging for so long. We think it’s a no-brainer that the cost of the car will come in far lower than the Z06 and we are planting our flag at $85K thanks to the shared chassis/widebody/LT2 engine.

  1. Well written and good article Keith.
There is a possibility that the charging port is behind a front or rear licence plate. If the average distance of commute is 60 miles round trip, then the E-Ray could be set up as a plug in hybrid with MINIMAL amount of batteries on board.
Next i would set a Default drive mode to pure electric. This way the car would be eligible for TAX rebates on purchase.
This is not rocket science and only viable way to sell on long term all over the world with a V8 in the back.

  2. The C8 is a great car that has evolved to an even better Z06, that will evolve to a better E Ray to an even better ZR1 and maybe a Zora. I hope I’m an early owner as I’m #1 on several list

  3. Curb weight and cost are real concerns.
$10k is my limit for a 200hp electrified front axle, like the 2024 Equinox EV already has.

  4. LT2 will be upgraded for ’24 to ~500hp (~505hp with performance exhaust) possibly slightly more. E-Ray adds the 62 kW (83 hp) all-wheel-drive assist induction motor that’s already been announced for a total of ~583 – 588hp depending on exhaust. Close enough to the predicted 600hp but keeping it in the upper 500s, keeps enough separation from the Z06. I think you nailed it with it starting in ~85k, right in the middle between Stingray and Z06.
