We’ve just shut the hood on the 2022 edition of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) and just like we say every single year – Man, what a show! The quality, rarity, and uniqueness of the cars shown at MCACN each year never ceases to impress. Each year is a completely new event not to be missed.

The Corvette contingent was led as always by the cars competing for the coveted Corvette Central Triple Diamond award. Having previously won Bloomington Gold and NCRS Top Flight accolades, those 30 Corvettes were among the absolute best ones out there. The selection of cars this year ranged from a red 1954 convertible up to a similarly red 2000 coupe. Some of our favorite Triple Diamond cars this year included a stunning Panama Yellow 1958 fuelie, a matching pair of 1970 LT-1s in coupe and convertible form, a menacing triple black 435hp 1967 convertible, and an amazingly preserved 1972 Bryar Blue coupe with just 8,900 miles on the clock.

LeMans-winning #3 Cunningham racer

Outside of the Triple Diamond area, the famous Lemans-winning #3 Cunningham racer was located front and center to greet eager patrons as they arrived at the show. Elsewhere we spied a handsome Lynndale Blue 1967 convertible in the Class of 1967 Invitational Display and a pair of unrestored 1972 coupes in the Class 1972 Invitational. One of those – Mike McFarland’s unrestored, Targa Blue LT-1, air conditioned example – claimed the highly coveted CorvetteBlogger Pick Award for 2022. Congrats Mike!

The Corvette Legends Invitational knocked it out of the park this year with a complete set of big tank Corvettes from 1963 to 1967. A white 1963 Z06 raced by one AJ Foyt and a white on blue 1-of-2 1967 tanker provided the bookends for this amazing look at a very rare Corvette option. We’ll have more on this display later this week so keep it tuned here.

Corvette Legends

Early Saturday afternoon, we caught up with Steve Garrett from the Corvette Today podcast during his informational presentation then headed over to check out some of the crusty Barn Finds and Hidden Gems.

While we love our Corvettes dearly, the cream of the crop metal cars showed up in force at MCACN. How about 40 Chrysler winged cars spread across multiple displays? Also, on the Mopar front, we loved seeing the first 2 1971 Hemi Chargers parked side by side. Blue Oval fans pined over the Pre-production GT 350 and Grabber Blue Boss displays while the Maple Leaf Muscle display showcased cars originally delivered in Canada.

Firebird Unveiling

Premier Unveilings anchor Saturdays at MCACN and 2022 saw a record number of fresh restorations make their public debut. On the Corvette side there was a superb silver 1965 small block convertible getting its public debut on as well as a Plum Crazy 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 convertible among many others. Yes, you read that correctly, Plum Crazy. As part of a little known program, people could special order an Oldsmobile in any color they chose for an additional $50. In this case, owner #1 chose the spicy Mopar hue of Plum Crazy. We were quite smitten with this car all weekend long.

Other cool “shows within the show” included a salute to Super Stock Dodges, the annual Studebaker contingent, a massive display of Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag racers, a Mr. Norm’s tribute, a cool display of big body muscle cars, and a group of Performance Station Wagons. Don’t forget the muscle bike display and the myriad of vendors spread throughout the show floor. If that’s not enough, there was even live music each day so attendees could rock out with their big block out.

Super Stock Dodges

As you can see there’s just so much to see at MCACN each year. The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals continues to roll onward, leading the way for lesser shows. The show continues to reinvent itself every year with new displays and cars not seen before. We’re not really sure how they bring all these rare cars out year after year. As usual, we’re already counting down to the weekend before Thanksgiving in 2023, when we can’t wait to see what the MCACN team puts together for us then.

Meanwhile, we proudly present our MCACN 2022 gallery for your perusal below.
