Corvettes for Sale: No-Reserve 1971 Corvette Convertible Priced Under $10k at eBay

By the end of this week, this 1971 Corvette – once used as a daily driver by a college student but relegated to storage perhaps for decades since – could be on its way back to the open road.

The Stingray convertible has been sitting for “many years” now, according to a listing on eBay where it will be auctioned off at no reserve by Friday. So far, 28 bids have climbed to $9,900.

Seemingly a respectable candidate for a full restoration, the car was used by the owner to drive to college in the early 1980s, and indeed the college parking sticker is still on the lower front quarter panel (how it must have pained him to stick something on what was likely his prized possession of the time).

Since these cars were pretty cheap back then, it was probably an easy decision for him to hang onto his Corvette for old time’s sake, rather than sell it.

Fortunately, the car has been stored indoors “all these years it was parked,” according to the listing, so the frame subsequently looks to be solid based on photos, and hopefully the birdcage will follow suit.

The Mille Miglia red paint has definitely seen better days, unfortunately, but a fresh coat of paint (to cover up the unusual set of widely spaced full-length white stripes hopefully) and some bodywork to repair a crack in the driver’s side rear quarter panel would do wonders for the way this car shows. A new white ragtop would also be a welcome addition to the restoration.

As for the powertrain, the original 350/270 horsepower V8 engine (hooked to a three-speed Turbo Hydromatic automatic transmission) is still under the hood but doesn’t run. It does roll and steer, however, so that will make it a little easier for the new owner to bring it home.

The red interior, which shows signs of the car’s 51 years, will need a major refurbishing, though the seat covers would be passable except for a mysterious huge gouge in the upper driver’s seat.

The car includes many options, including a chrome luggage rack, power brakes, power steering, power windows, air conditioning, and deluxe wheels, among others.

The seller encourages anyone interested in the car to inspect it prior to bidding, “not after the auction has been won.”

Wouldn’t it be great if someone bought the car, restored it, and then drove it to their own college reunion?
