General Motors Delivers 8,630 New Corvettes During the 2nd Quarter of 2022

General Motors released their 2nd Quarter 2022 sales report on Friday morning and it shows that a total of 8,630 new Corvettes were delivered during the quarter. That’s an 8.3% increase in deliveries over the 2nd Quarter 2021 sales of 7,971.

For the Calendar Year to Date, Chevrolet has delivered 17,441 new Corvettes which is 19.6% ahead of the same time period in 2021 which saw just 14,582 Corvettes delivered.

It’s the same story we’ve seen over the last few quarters. Chevy puts up some great numbers but just can’t break out due to supply constraints and closures. During the 2nd Quarter, we saw the plant closed for a full week in April and single-day closures in both May and June.

The 8,630 total for the 2nd quarter is a very good number despite the tough environment and if we can just make a quarter without a weekly shutdown, that would put the quarterly totals close to 10,000 which is what we really need to be to support the demand for the C8. If you think that number is out of reach in the current production environment, we saw Chevrolet deliver 10,166 new Corvettes during the 3rd Quarter of 2021 so hopefully, they can do it again in 2022.

Further good news comes this week with the confirmation that 55 or more 2023 Corvette Z06 Captured Test Fleet cars (CTF) have been built and as we suggested yesterday, we are seeing more of them on the streets which bodes well for the Z06’s Start of Regular Production (SORP) later in the Third Quarter of 2022.

DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) sold 582,401 vehicles in the United States in the second quarter of 2022 and the company increased its sales and market share sequentially for the third consecutive quarter. GM’s second quarter sales were down 15% year over year, but market share was up 1 point to an estimated 16.3% (J.D. Power PIN).

“GM’s sales and market share have grown each of the last three quarters, even with lingering supply chain disruptions,” said Steve Carlisle, GM executive vice president and president, North America. “Our long-term momentum will continue to build thanks to the launches of groundbreaking new EVs like the GMC HUMMER EV and Cadillac LYRIQ, and the tremendous customer response to the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.”

GM vehicle production was strong during the second quarter and the company finished the month with 247,839 vehicles in dealer inventory, including units in-transit to dealers. However, GM’s second quarter vehicle wholesale volumes were impacted by the ongoing semiconductor supply shortage and other supply chain disruptions mostly in June.

As a result, GM will hold about 95,000 vehicles manufactured without certain components in company inventory until they are completed and will recognize revenue when they are sold to dealers, which is expected to happen throughout the second half of 2022. The impact of these events, which is not expected to impact GM’s full-year earnings guidance, is discussed in an SEC Form 8-K filed today.
