Corvettes for Sale: 1962 Corvette Barn Find on eBay at No Reserve

By Sunday night, this 1962 Corvette convertible will have a new owner.

It’s been a hot item on eBay so far, and for good reason – it’s being offered at no reserve and has an interesting back story. So far, with action slated to close in three days, 48 bids have been placed, climbing to $32,800.

We’re not sure if we understood the ad correctly, but it appears that this is a one-owner car that’s been sitting in a garage for “many, many” years after the widow apparently couldn’t bear to part with her husband’s pride and joy when he passed away.

Naturally, the car isn’t in tip-top shape, but all the bones appear to be in place to turn this into a very nice Corvette. As the seller notes, it’s “a very nice car to restore.”

That job will be made easier by what’s residing under the hood – a numbers-matching 327 V8 engine hooked to a four-speed manual transmission, though we’re not told whether it’s the base 250 horsepower motor or the upgraded 300 horsepower that was a $55.80 option.

After so long a time sitting in the garage, it’s likely the engine and other mechanical parts like the brakes and hoses will need a little attention.

A new paint job will be in the works, too, as the current black paint is showing its age, though it appears the car could have originally been Ermine White leaving the St. Louis factory. Included with the sale is the factory hardtop, but the soft top will need to be replaced.

The interior, meanwhile, will also need a lot of effort, but all the parts look to be there. Spending some bucks on new seat covers, dash pad, and carpet, for starters, would do a world of good.

The car is located in Miami, Florida, but the sea air doesn’t seem to have affected it rust-wise as the seller points out that the frame is “solid.”

I’ve always wondered what people were thinking back in the day about the ’62s. Did they want to rush out and get the last of the solid-axle Corvettes because Chevy was about “to mess up” their favorite car with that new-fangled “Sting Ray” or were they thrilled about a new and improved generation of Corvette soon to debut? If you were around in those days, let us know what you thought.

  1. I was around in 1962 and thought the ’63 was an absolute space ship, equipped with all the good stuff that the European sports cars had., but then again, I really like the C8 also.

  2. I HAD A 62 BACK IN 65 AND LOVED THAT CAR.I PUT MANY MILES ON IT.I HAD THE 327-300HP-4 SPEED-POSI REAR-BOTH TOPS.SOMETIMES WE ALL DO STUPID THIGS LIKE GETTING ONE CAR AND SWITCHING TO ANOTHER TOO OFTEN.I CURRENTLY HAVE A 13 GRAND SPORT AND REALLY LIKE THAT ALSO.

  3. Hey Mitch,
Oh yes I was around in 1962… graduating from high school and lusting after all things Corvette. GM always saved the best for last. The 1962 360hp fuel injected Corvette was the best of the old C1 solid axels. I loved the look of ‘57 single head light design but the body colored cove of the ‘62 unified the design … how I wanted one… at 18.

The ‘63 was amazing… saw it in college on campus … but I was disappointed… the hood vents were fake, so we’re the side vents and b pillar vents… come on GM. But it sure did run… loved the fuelies and big blocks…BUT they hit a GM home run with the best of the best … the 1967 427 435 hp L71 tri power coupe with that stinger hood, side pipes and real vents and scoops and a four speed. The baddest ass Corvette ever built for over 50 years. Oh man I lusted after that car but at twenty three I was thinking of school, and marriage and kids… life can get in the way. But no more.

It took me over 45 years and four Corvettes to finally get my last of the best ‘67 427 equivalent… the baddest ass street Corvette ever built, a museum delivery 2019 low wing, 7 speed stick 755hp ZR1.
OMG … this car is the spiritual descendant of all those big block and fuel injected C1-C7’s that went before it. GM as a last hurrah for the front engined Corvette, they got it rue
