[POLL] Which Corvette Has the Better Exhaust Note? Grand Sport LS6 versus E‑Ray LT2

Now that the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport is in customer’s garages, we are starting to see the comparisons that Chevy would never show during the launch of the car. For this go around, we have a rev-off between Mike Brink’s new ’27 Grand Sport Coupe and Joe Lamb’s 2025 Corvette E-Ray.

On the left is the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport which debuted with the all-new 6.7-liter LS6 V8, a naturally aspirated small block that’s quickly gaining a reputation as being a “torque monster.” Meanwhile, on the right we have the outgoing 6.2-liter LS2 in a 2025 Corvette E-Ray and it has been the undisputed workhorse of the C8 era.

Despite the availability of the center quad exhaust for the Grand Sport, Mike elected for the standard Corner-mounted exhaust which we also see is on the E-Ray. That makes this comparison even more “apples-to-apples” with the engines being the only difference between the two.

Two Corvettes…two different soundtracks. Which is your favorite?

  1. Hands down the LS6! This is the way a Corvette should sound, particularly the good old push rod small block. Love the throaty sound at idle and that beautiful baritone as it revs!

  2. “Back Pressure” is terrible in any exhaust system. Anyone who says otherwise holds performance opinions that should be discarded. Scavenging is the name of the game; not dwell, and CERTAINLY NOT “back pressure”.

This comparison could have been done with any LT2 SR; the cat-back is the same as the ER. There’s no mention of which exhaust mode either is in; the ER’s is clean but muted and dies out quickly, while the GS’s has the burbles and pops that the LT2 will also make when in the correct exhaust mode. Quite frankly, it sounds like the LT2 is in Tour mode and the LS6 is in Track mode.

My takeaway here is that Mike Brink o’ Schitt is doing the same sandbagging/glorification he’s done previously with his other cars. Trying to take a piss on the ER and “showcase” his GS is just how he copes with trying to make sure that resale value on whatever he currently owns–doesn’t tank. I used to think it might be inadvertent; but he’s done it enough times that it’s clearly intentional. Pay no attention to this clown.

  3. Thanks IDP,

Yes, back pressure is not good and was a bad choice of words on my part especially on a site with many very technically knowledgeable folks and I did not give it much thought. Whether caused by fuel or tuning etc., I actually do not like a lot of pops or burbles, especially in cars that are not that fast, but a little now and then can be nice. : )
(obviously both these Vettes are very fast and I would be proud to own either)

I don’t know what if any of the video authors motives were as I took it as a lite fun opinion poll, but the GS sounds better to me, if only for the few seconds of the video.

Full disclosure, my first Vette/C3 had Cyclone mild street headers, straight pipes and Cherry Bombs, and it did sound glorious.! 😃👍😃 (I was also much younger then….) lol

  4. Correct about Mike Brink being a clickbait car flipper.

Fake illnesses overblown to sound life threatening? Check

Weasels his way into early allocation of latest and highest demand corvette? Check

Shameless promotion for whatever car he absolutely loves at the moment? Check

Selling said object of his affection within a year or two so he doesn’t take a depreciation hit? Check

Car flipper sez what? Don’t care anymore…

  5. Is this immature, superficial silliness how people choose to purchase a $100,000 car these days? Seems that way. Turbocharging is where it’s at. I love passing unnecessarily noisy cars.
