Editors Note: This article was submitted by Alex Sommers with the proposed working title: “Craig Anderson is Reason Enough for Corvette Nation to Throw its Support Behind the Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final”. Despite our support for Craig and his cool choice of athletic headwear, we’ll be throwing our support behind our hometown favorites, the Tampa Bay Lightning. – Keith Cornett, Editor/Founder

The 2022 Stanley Cup Finals are underway, and it has caused a friendly civil war of sorts here at CorvetteBlogger.

Our founder, who prefers that contributors refer to him as “The Godfather,” is headquartered in Tampa, home of the back-to-back defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning that is just four wins away from the first NHL three-peat since the New York Islanders took home the Cup four straight times to start the 1980s. Standing in their way is your author’s hometown Colorado Avalanche, a team that hasn’t skated in the final since I was in fourth grade.

In the meantime, the Avs employed hockey’s biggest Corvette fanatic at goalie. Before I wrote here, Keith and his long-time amigos covered the man in question, Craig “Andy” Anderson, on multiple occasions both for his participation in the Ron Fellows school, and his fondness for incorporating Corvette themes in his on-ice helmets.

The 41-year-old journeyman and 300-game-winner have played for a total of six NHL squads. You could see him in net for the Avalanche between 2009 and 2011 when he donned the coolest ‘Vette helmet of his career. Throughout his years in the league, Andy has used the “Jake” logo on multiple helmets, but none were better than the Yeti wearing its own Jake-meets-Jason Voorhees mask from his Avs days.

He might not play for the underdog Avalanche anymore, but having Corvette’s biggest disciple on the roster of former players should be reason enough for our readers to throw their support behind the up-and-comers as they take on Tampa’s evil empire (that doesn’t have a single ‘Vettte-man on their roster, as far as we can tell).

  1. Also worth noting: Corvette Fan/Goalie’s former team leads the series 1-0 (making them 3-0 vs Tampa this season) after outshooting the Bolts 38-23 in game 1.

  2. Sorry Alex. As a lifelong Red Wings fan, I’m genetically predisposed to root against the Av’s. The Detroit Bureau is going with the Lightning to 3-peat this year!
