Corvette Assembly Plant is Closed Today Over Supply Chain Issues

We’d been feeling pretty good about the state of Corvette production and last Friday I even wrote about how we were seeing some higher-than-expected days of production this month with the daily counts reaching 188-193 units produced.

Fast forward to this Friday and we learned that the Corvette Assembly Plant is closed today after reducing production on Wednesday to 98 vehicles and Thursday to 80 vehicles built.

It’s currently unknown what part or vendor has caused the slowdown/stoppage other than the now-familiar refrain of “supply chain” problems being responsible.

Today’s shutdown comes on the heels of yesterday’s release of the June ordering constraints which we took to be positive as Chevrolet had increased the availability of Magnetic Ride Control on both base Stingrays and those ordered with the Z51 Performance Package.

Stay tuned to CorvetteBlogger for the latest Corvette production news.

  1. It’s always smart to have alternate suppliers for many components that go into assembly. I used to work in aerospace and we spent a lot of time developing alternate suppliers to avoid not having critical supplies that would slow or shut down production!

  2. Again!!!!???? WTF??!! They still haven’t got this figured out, for christ sake GM. So has nobody at GM EVER run a god damn business??!! I thought companies prepared for crap like this, like the other poster says the way it’s done in Aerospace industry. It’s gotten to the point that this is inexcusable. What an on going embarrassment.

  3. Single points of failure don’t work out well. Too bad GM hasn’t learned this lesson in the ever predictable past few years.

  4. Kevin, it’s industry wide. My local dealer is selling cars as they are placed on the transport truck. They have no inventory save for a few under equipped trucks and a couple of cars. The few used cars they can get are gone almost immediately. I don’t know what happened to the world but it isn’t pretty and no one seems to have a definitive answer as to why or when this can be solved.

  5. I want to know why GM, Chevrolet and Z06 leaders are ignoring their loyal Corvette Z06 owners and not saying a word about when we can order our new 2023 Z06 that I put a deposit on over 2 years ago and went to my dealer on March 23rd like they said I could to officially order my new Z06. No one seems to know what is happening with the Z06 or they are not telling us or the dealers anything. I think that is very rude, thoughtless and inexcusable!!! I have been a purchased 9 Corvettes 3 of which were Z06’s so far and want my new 2023 Z06! Common customer service and decency would be to at lease let us know what is happening and give us a new date!!!
