Chevrolet to Extend 2022 Corvette Model Year Production for an Extra Week

Chevrolet just made some 900 or so Corvette owners very happy and most probably don’t even know it!

A near-perfect week of Corvette production at the Corvette Assembly Plant would see the completion of about 184 cars per day or 920 for the week. So when Chevrolet was forced to idle the Assembly Plant for the week of March 21st due to a parts-related shortage, that means we are short about 900 cars for the 2022 model year with all those owners sitting at 3000 status.

Today we learned from our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com that to make up for the shortfall, the 2022 model year is being extended an additional week with production now scheduled to run through Friday, May 13th. That move then pushes back the start of regular production for the 2023 Corvette Stingrays which will now start down the line on Monday, May 16th. According to the MECF, this production timetable update comes directly from a GM Spokesperson.

That’s a move that makes total sense to us as it gives those 900 or so customers the 2022 model year Corvettes they ordered previously without having to jump through hoops to cancel and resubmit those orders as a 2023 model year. And then with the price change increase, you would have people howling about price protection and we know how that went last time, so yes, this way is much preferred.

Of course, this decision is probably helped by the fact that just the 2023 Stingrays are starting now on May 16th instead of the much anticipated 2023 Z06 which will see “availability during the summer of 2022” as Chevy has been stating for some time now.

The addition (or replacement) of the week that was missed also affects our previous prediction for 2022’s total Stingray production number which I had previously estimated at 24,500. With the additional week, we are now raising our estimate for the total ’22 production to be somewhere between 25,000-25,500 cars. Beginning Monday, there will six weeks of 2022 production left with the plant scheduled to be closed only for next week’s Good Friday (April 15) and Easter Monday (April 18) holidays.
