A little while back we had a tongue-in-cheek post about a C8 Corvette Convertible owner who wanted to see the LT2 V8 engine that resides under the HTC’s heat shield. In that instance, he had a life-sized photo of the engine mounted to the top of the shield and we are sure that generates a few laughs from those expecting to see the real thing.

Another C8 Corvette HTC owner who also wants to see his LT2 engine may have a slightly better solution by using magnets.

Willy Chu posted the DIY project first on Facebook and we’ve been watching it spread around ever since. We grabbed his cheat sheet from our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com and have it here for you below in case you want to try something similar.

Willy’s solution was to remove the 18x #10 Torx screws that secures the heat shield to the car and he applied a 12-pack of neodymium bar magnets utilizing 3M double-sided tape around the enclosure while also installing strips of a steel bar he got from Lowes at the same locations on the lip of the heat shield surround. Willy also added the Edge Red LT2 engine cover to hide the bare air plenum and he says the OEM engine cover fits with no issues.

So now when Willy takes his C8 HTC to Cars and Coffee, he can open the hood, pop off the cover, and show off the motor like everyone else!
