[VIDEO] Late Model Racecraft Overhauls TJ Hunt's Twin Turbo Corvette with Help from FuelTech

YouTuber TJ Hunt was one of the very first to take delivery of a 2020 Corvette and he promptly had a twin-turbo kit and aftermarket exhaust added to the car. It’s been a while since we’ve seen it last, but now the car is in Texas where Stephen Faraday and Late Model Racecraft are working to correct the various issues with the car.

Stephen explains that TJ’s problems included reduced engine power when at boost as well as a bunch of electrical gremlins due to maxed out sensors among other things. He was able to get the car running and in drive, but then there was an oiling issue where the intercooler was filling up with oil. So the previous kit was removed and LMR added their own twin-turbo kit to the car and once installed, most of the issues went away. Faraday says TJ then asked how he could get it to run in the nines and can it make 1000 hp to which Faraday replied the power wasn’t a problem, it’s the clutches that are the limiting factor.

As we get a closer look at TJ’s new twin-turbo setup from LMR, we see they are running a similar setup to FuelTech by implementing their aftermarket ECM to handle the port fuel injection. Faraday explains that fueling is one of the big obstacles to tuning the LT1 and LT2 engines due to their direct injection fuel delivery. The solution is to add a custom intake manifold with two new injectors controlled by FuelTech’s ECM which delivers more fuel under boost while allowing the engine to utilize the stock injectors when idling or driving around normally in an unspirited fashion.

The twin-turbo Stingray is put on the dyno and we see the results of the current build are 698 rwhp and 597 ft-lb of torque at 7.5 lbs of boost. Faraday says TJ will be receiving a built motor that’s in the building and waiting for an open service bay, as well as several different clutches they are planning to look at.

In addition to TJ’s C8 Corvette, there is a Torch Red C8 Corvette at LMR that’s going to be a twin-turbo build and Faraday again talks clutches and how they will be testing a different manufacturer to see if it can handle 1,200 to eventually up to 2,000 hp. That sounds like a serious build!
