Typically when we bring you content from Corvettes at Carlisle or any other show, we show off the shiniest, the rarest, and the most expensive cars on the grounds. But what did they look like before they were all cleaned up for the show? Today we pay homage to the barn finds, the basket cases, and the project cars of Corvettes at Carlisle 2018.
As we wandered aisle after aisle in the Carlisle swap meet we noticed a bumper crop of project cars this year. Projects from all 7 Corvette generations were at the ready just waiting for some brave soul to come along and snatch them up. They all needed varying levels of work. They’re all ugly, smell bad, and, in some cases, barely even resemble a Corvette anymore. Many were missing motors. Another had been set on fire. All of them needed and some degree of bodywork. Several weren’t even taken off their trailers. The one thing they did have in common, though, was that ALL of them needed a good home.
The great thing about Corvettes at Carlisle is that if you were to purchase a project car there, odds are that you could find pretty much every part you would ever need to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. In fact, one owner actually displayed his now completed 2016 Carlisle project car in the swap meet area this year.
So enjoy our Carlisle project car gallery below as we salute the worn-in AND worn out Corvettes just waiting for someone to take them home and make them whole again.

Check out the article in the Wall Street Journal for Wed. 10/3/18 p. A12(print edition) under the title “ Don’t Mess With This Nuclear Corvette.” Great story as told to A.J. Baime in his My Ride weekly column.
