We all remember the debacle that Ford created last year in sandbagging their performance prior to the qualifying rounds at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As you remember, once the qualifying round started, the GTs suddenly gained 5 seconds over their lap times from the previous practices in the LMGTE-Pro class.

We hope that this year the race organizers at the FIA will be more vigilant in the efforts to reduce sandbagging and make the field more competitive.

Ahead of the official June 2nd test date, officials have released the preliminary Balance of Performance (BoP) tables and John Dagny’s Sportscar365.com has the info:

For the Corvette C7.Rs, we see a one (1) liter reduction in fuel capacity and an increase of 0.7mm in the air restrictors.

The Ford GTs have been hit with a weight increase and a power reduction. The Fords are getting 20kg of additional weight as compared to last year. The GTs will also see reduced turbo boost pressures across all RPM levels. The Ford GTs also are hit with a three (3) liter reduction of fuel capacity.

Ferrari, which also was sandbagged during last year’s practices leaded up to qualifying has no BoP changes for this year, returning with the minimum weight (1268kg) and the same turbo boost levels as last year. Ferrari does see a reduction of 2 liters of fuel capacity.

Aston Martin was hit with a 10kg weight increase but also gets a 0.4mm larger air restrictor. The Vantage GTE also sees a reduction of 2 liters of fuel capacity.

The new Porsche mid-engine 911 RSR gets a 10kg weight increase and a 0.1mm larger air restrictor. It will gain one (1) liter of fuel capacity.

Following the official test day results on June 2nd, the FIA can make additional changes to the Balance of Performance tables ahead of race. Last year, the FIA issued two BoP changes after the test day including the unprecedented update issued after the qualifying shenanigans by Ford and Ferrari.
